Our Therapeutic Centre for Street Girls in Malawi will effectively rescue and house up to 60 girls between the ages of 0-18. Through the implementation of specific trauma informed models of care, we will provide them with a secure, loving environment that empowers them to become self-reliant, productive and healthy members of their communities, setting them on the path to become leaders for social change. Please help us reach our goal, and support these girls to not only survive, but thrive!
The number of children growing up on the streets in Malawi is rising due to poverty, HIV and AIDS, child abuse and neglect. They go hungry, sleep in dangerous places, and face constant threats of physical, emotional and sexual violence. Girls face added challenges of pregnancy, early childbearing and motherhood. No child deserves growing up without companionship, love and protection, having no access to education or medical services, or losing their dignity and childhood.
This project will effectively rescue vulnerable children and youths from the streets of Malawi and break the vicious cycle of poverty. Our vision is to create a safe and loving home for the children that we support with all the critical resources they need to thrive, including food, clothing, shelter, education, medical attention, psychological care and love. Fundamentally, this project relies on prevention and education to rescue children from a life on the streets and build their resilience.
The number of girls living on the streets will reduce, and where poverty, not neglect, was the major driver of separation, reintegration with families will be achieved. Our girls will get a better quality of life, and will overcome the challenges preventing them from realising their potential. We will mitigate their exposure to exploitation and prepare them for reintegration into society. As a result, they will face a much brighter future for themselves, their families and their communities.
