Rare Gem Talent School is a school under the Dyslexia Organization, Kenya. The school is located in Kitengela, Kajiado County, Kenya. The school caters to children with dyslexia and neurodevelopmental disorders

We are delighted to report that the school relocated to a new place with large classes and spacious rooms. With the help of wellwishers, parents, and the support of the members on this platform, the children with neurodevelopmental in primary and school school are now learning in a conducive environment.  The movement happened January 2023.

Due to this change, the number of learners has increased.  Whereas we could not accommodate more learners, the space has increased and now we are able to accpet more learners.  This means that more children with neurodevelopmental disorders will find a conducive place to learn.

We are grateful for all the donations.  The learning material have been helpful as we were able to concentrate on the construction of the building.  The learning material is still being used in the new school. However, with the larger classrooms and larger space, more learning material are required.

ii.           Acquire more text books and flash cards for easier learning.

iii.            Purchase sewing machines for use in our tailoring and dress making class.

iv.            Buy more beads for the beadwork eg necklace and ornament making class.

       v.           Put some of the money in the ongoing construction of classrooms for children with dyslexia.

vii.            Buy salon dolls and other beauty products for the fashion and beauty class.

The school is currently on a leased ¼-acre piece of land.  The space occupies the classes, boardrooms, and Kitchen for pre-school, primary, and secondary school.  Through a bank loan, the school acquired a 1-acre piece of land where the school complex construction is going on which will include a block classroom, the assessment center, and boarding rooms for both girls and boys in primary and secondary school.  All the funds are channeled towards the construction as moving to the new place is urgent. The current school has become too small to accommodate the growing number of children. The lease contract is coming to end and the monthly rent is too expensive to maintain.

The cost of construction has been tremendously affected by the increased prices of materials attributed to COVID-19 and increase fuel prices.  The food prices have doubled which has affected the

Funds received from this platfrom have helped us to start the construction of the school complex.  We have laid the foundation of the classroom classrooms and we hope to continue brick by brick and block by block as funds are available.

Without our donors, it would have been extremely difficult to start the construction because any little saving is used to repay the bank loan.

We are incredibly grateful to GLOBAL GIVING Platform and all our friends who generously gave their donations because we were able to raise some funds. We managed to improve classes, dormitories and provide resources to meet the COVID-19 protocol. Without our donors, it would have been extremely difficult to learn in the new requirements. The funds specifically helped to improve:

  • Classrooms

-          - Purchased 20 new desks and 8 tables and repaired the broken the broken to enable practice distancing between students in class

-          Expanded semi-permanent classroom.

 Dormitories

-          Made 10 beds and repaired 20 beds that required repairing.

-          Constructed a semi-permanent dormitory one that can fit 4 beds for the older boys

 Kitchen

-          Added kitchen utensils to ensure that each child had own cap, plates and spoon

-          Increased water supply to the kitchen

 COVID-19 Protocols

-          Increased hand washing water points in the compound

-          Buy washing liquid soap, temperature guns

-          Masks for teachers and other workers and children who did not bring own masks.

 Learning Resources

-          Purchased more learning resources (writing material, text books) and teaching aid equipment.

Although it has been hard to maintain the COVID-19 protocol in school, but with the support of your donations, we have managed to achieve great levels. There has been no case of illness during the school period. The school term run smoothly.
