This project is aimed to create a conducive environment for the re-opening of schools in the age of COVID-19 pandemic. Rare Gem Talent School is a day and boarding school with over 200 children who have learning difficulties and other special needs. There are also children who come from refugee families who can barely feed the children during this period. These students require extra care and attention as we prepare to re-open the school in January 2021 or as will be guided by the government
Following the closure of schools early this year due to covid-19 pandemic, Rare Gem Talent school has depleted all its financial savings. Furthermore, the government has set up guidelines that will govern the re-opening of all schools in the country. Children with special needs risk staying longer at home if we do not meet the guidelines. In addition, the school has not paid rent and salaries since the school closed. The landlord has threatened to evict the school from its current place.
With a budget of $38,139 will be able to prepare the school for readmission of children, fumigate the entire school, construct sanitizer booth and purchase sanitization materials, prepare handwashing areas and its accessories, purchase thermo guns and face masks. It will also help pay rent and salary arrears, train and test teachers for covid-19 and hire extra school van for the day scholars to ensure adequate distancing. Modify the classrooms and dormitories for better ventilation.
The project will ensure that the staff and the students are able to overcome the challenges posed by the Covid 19. The students will also enjoy a conducive learning environment while their parents ride on the guarantee that their children are safe back in school. Learning will resume with minimal risk of contraction of the virus. More job opportunities will be created because extra staff will be contracted to help meet government regulations. The community around the school will also benefit
