Lifting Hands has created a transformative safe space for young people in Costa Rica, where they can spend their free time in a positive, supportive environment. After school, local youth gather for tutoring in school subjects, employment skills training, sports, and nutrition workshops. This holistic approach not only strengthens their academic performance but also equips them with valuable life skills that will empower them as they move into adulthood. The impact on the neighborhood has been profound, as these young individuals are no longer left to roam the streets but instead are actively engaged in their personal growth.
In addition to academic and skill-building opportunities, we’ve introduced new technologies workshops that spark curiosity and provide a platform for youth to learn modern digital skills. Psychology sessions are also a key part of our program, offering emotional support and helping young people develop healthy coping mechanisms. “Lifting Hands has given me a place where I can learn and grow, and I feel supported in a way I never did before,” says Andrea, a 15-year-old participant. The combination of academic, emotional, and practical support is making a real difference, both in the lives of the youth and the broader community.
The program’s success would not be possible without the generous support from GlobalGiving and donors like you. Together, we are building a future where young people are empowered to succeed, not just in school, but in life. As we continue to nurture these future leaders, we remain committed to providing safe spaces where youth can thrive, build relationships, and contribute positively to their communities.
