Boy Case Study
Situation:
The boy hails from rural area of Medak District –Telangana. He is the eldest of the three siblings born to agriculture laborers. Both the couples were infected with HIV and lost their lives due to this deadly virus HIV . Unfortunately this boy and one of younger brother were infected with HIV during their birth. The grandparents recognized their HIV status quite later. After knowing about the HIV infection to the children the grandparents were in helpless situation due to poverty and stigma associated with HIV/AIDS. The old grand- parents brought the two children, this boy and one of his younger brother [being HIV positive], to the DESIRE Society. They came to know about DESIRE Society from our outreach worker’s presence in their community.
Boy at DESIRE Society Care Home:
At the time of admission , he was malnourished. He was badly in need of the medical attention as being neglected by his family members due to poor socio economic conditions. After admission , he was able to receive round the clock health care and monitoring. This boy was put on ART (Antiretroviral Treatment, a lifesaving drug) as his CD4 count was low. He was also put with a balanced diet as ART has got more side effects. DESIRE Society has put more attention on planned nutritional diet which truly helped this child to continue drug adherence. This lead him to gain weight and height measurements . Improved health condition has blessed this boy to resume his education. Now he has finished degree course studies in Hyderabad .
He got job and want to lead independent life. Support from like-minded people will enable him to do so & be in a position to have sustainable life span.
IMPACT OF GLOBAL GIVING Foundation SUPPORT:
“I want to serve my village people and care for younger brothers by taking up professional line ” are the words of this innocent boy.
We at DESIRE Society hope that this boy will “ live long and his dreams will come true “ like a normal boy via the contributions received from GlobalGiving Foundation funds.
