Oak Rural Health continues to ensure we work with the community members of Korukoru village in Akinyele local government area of Oyo state Nigeria. Bringing the problem of lack of access to potable water to an end remains our priority in this village.
During our routine visit to project sites for project impact and monitoring, the representative of the community after usual expression of appreciation for the relief they have with the water, hinted us that the volume of water they get from the borehole is very small and it is far below expected volume that can serve the village. In response to the challenge, we took our engineer was to the installation to assess the situation and advise on what we can do to resolve the issue. After assessment, it was discovered that there is a possibility of backfill because of the soil type and there will be a need to flush the borehole and reinforce the inner casing all through the depth of the hole. We have arranged for a meeting with the community to discuss how we can jointly find a lasting solution so they can continue to enjoy the water like before.
We need your financial commitment in this regard more than before. Your donations will help put the hardship in this community to an end.
It is a moment of joy to finally see potable water running in a Rural outskirt of Ibadan, Korukoru community in Akinyele local government area of Oyo state Nigeria. It will be recalled that the dwellers of this ancient village have suffered numerous devastating consequences of lack of access to clean and potable water in about 300 years history of this village's existence. Oak Rural Health Organization has gathered resources from far and near to put smiles on the faces of these villagers and the neighbouring settlements with estimated population of over 500.
A recent visit of our team to the village reported how happy the villagers were to have their water needs met through construction of the concrete stantion and installation of the storage tank. The whole village now has water for both domestic use and some of their businesses that directly depend on water availability. Our team also had a taste and confirmed how potable the water is. However, the people complained that they could not fetch as much as they ought to, there is limitation to number of buckets that each person can fetch because the borehole is not supplying the water quantity that corresponds with the number of users. The Organization has since directed the engineers to look into this and advise properly on getting the problem solved.
While appreciating our supporters' generosity, we still solicit for more support towards final completion of this project for the benefit of the poor villagers.
It was another record breaking moment in an ancient village of Korukoru in Ibadan Nigeria. The village in over 3 centuries of its existence has been without potable water with its residents struggling for water to drink and for other purposes. The village of hundreds of people has suffered a lot of setbacks on their health and economic means of survival.
Oak Rural Health Organization with lean resources has mobilised, through community involvement and participation to ensure that the problem becomes "a thing of the past". The borehole drilling which got the entire villagers rejoicing was done. In our usual system of making the community a major stakeholder in resource mobilisation towards problem solving, they were actively involved in our local fundraising activities which led to the procurement of other plumbing accessories for the final finishing. Now that the project is almost complete, we need a little fund for construction of concrete stantion on which the water storage tank will be placed. Your generous donations at this point will enable a timely completion of this project. Then, the community will have an uninterrupted access to sustainable water supply.
Water remains the most essential need, and CORE to human existence and survival. Water should be available and accessible to every creature in sufficient quantity and quality. But people of Korukoru community in Ibadan city of Oyo state are exception to this, as access to potable water has been a tug of war for centuries. Water is needed for different reasons among different folks. For this community, it is majorly needed for healthful living and economic growth. Oak Rural Health Organization (ORHO) in the face of lean resources takes a bold step in putting laughter on the faces of this community and environment with estimated population of 700. Our recent activities engaged the services of experts to map out an area, where a borehole drilling can be done for a sufficient and sustainable water supply. This is a process popularly known as Geophysical survey.
Moreover, the process of Geophysical survey has enabled us to know the estimated depth of the proposed borehole for a clean and sustainable water supply(see attached document). Now, the next stage is borehole drilling and PVC casing. This is the stage at which the community will be provided with the real water source for the first time in centuries. The financial implications of this is enormous, resources are being pulled from our offline efforts. We still need well above 1000 USD to hit our target. Little donations mean a lot to us at this moment. You can be our fundraising ambassador for this project, your efforts in this regard will prevent disease outbreak and spread, also empower the villagers for economic independence. We are proud to have you with us, making the world a better place together!
Korukoru community leaders and members could not hold their joy as they recieved our team's visit. The aim of the visit and short meeting was to analyse the situation of lack of access to potable water, the effects so far and the ways forward. Our team reiterated the importance of community Involvement and stakeholders' participation in ensuring a lasting solution to the problem under consideration. Engaging the community members and seeing them as stakeholders in proferring solution to their own problems has been a useful system in Oak Rural Health Organization's approach to problem solving.
The leaders of the community have shown their willingness in offering maximum support of all activities that will finally lead to provision of potable water within the locality. However, majority of the villagers are poor subsistence farmers who depend on the generosity of our kind hearted donors to put smiles on their faces and prevent an imminent disease outbreak within the community as a result of lack of access to clean water. No matter how little the donation, it can provide more than just a drop of clean water which is more valuable than drums of dirty water. HELP US! SUPPORT OUR FEAT! You will not regret you did.....
