(English below)

¡Muchas gracias!

4 months of work in favor of those who need it most.

Thanks to your generous contributions we have been able to continue with our programs for vulnerable populations in Mexico City. The development of our three areas of work to support the beneficiaries have been possible thanks to your donation and we want to share with you a little of what we have done in the last four months.

1) Attention to groups in street situations.

We continued with our campaigns of listening, recognition and support to improve the quality of life of people living on the streets. We initiated a counseling and education program for vulnerable groups sleeping in shelters in Mexico City and distributed winter clothing in public spaces.

2) An assistance program with a gender perspective.

In alliance with organizations such as COPRED and the Human Rights Commission, we initiated an educational program on menstrual health and distributed feminine pads to women in street situations.

3) Activities to promote a space for expression

As part of Art Week 2023, we organized a group exhibition with the beneficiaries of the Mi Valedor project, in which we displayed prints and drawings resulting from a series of workshops led by volunteer artists.

4) A source of income for the beneficiaries

We were present at cultural events and art fairs within Art Week 2023, such as Zona Maco and the Material Art Fair, where beneficiaries had the opportunity to sell their magazines and in this way generate a legitimate and steady income.

5) A new print issue of Mi Valedor cultural magazine

The first print issue of our magazine La esquina de Mi Valedor for 2023 was published in February. With this new magazine, the beneficiaries can continue to offer a product that generates extra income and helps to break down the barriers of exclusion. The magazine is our working tool.

6) Relations with government organizations and institutions

We reached agreements with organizations such as COPRED (the Council to Prevent and Eliminate Discrimination in Mexico City) and the Mexico City Reinsertion Institute, to support more people in vulnerable situations. In addition, cultural spaces such as the Franz Mayer Museum are now officially a point of sale for the beneficiaries of our project.

And all of this was possible thanks to your generous donation, thank you very much!

These three months we have been full of beneficial activities for the supporters. Thank you for helping us with your donation! We tell you what we achieved in this last quarter of the year.

Our achievements:

We were part of the international book fair in the Zócalo.

Mi Valedor was part of the XXII edition of the Mexico City International Book Fair in the Zócalo, where topics related to literature, politics, history, feminism, social struggles, documentaries and music were discussed. Our beneficiaries were in charge of selling not only magazines, but also stickers, photos, bags and other merchandise, as a way to generate a legitimate income with their work.

Cycle of talks for the World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day takes place on October 10, with the aim of increasing awareness and relevance of mental health problems and encouraging their support in all parts of the world. On October 7th we gave rise to our cycle of talks about the importance of mental health at the National Human Rights Commission. We managed to talk about the awareness and relevance of mental health problems and encourage their support in all parts of the world, guided by psychologists and allies of Mi Valedor.

We continue with workshops and activities.

The supporters took a workshop on safe drug use given by the collective Psicocalle. In it we reflect on what drugs are, how they work, how we can use them more safely and what role they play in our lives. This workshop had as its objective the prevention of addictions, always with a focus on risk and damage reduction.

On the other hand, we commemorate the Day of the Dead in our office and in the Plaza de las Conchitas next to Psicocalle. A very special and important tradition in Mi Valedor where we commemorate those who see us from heaven, always with great peace and joy.

We were at Clavo Movimiento 2022, a contemporary art fair

At the beginning of November, Mi Valedor was part of the fourth edition of CLAVO, a contemporary art fair, in the publishing area. CLAVO  is an independent movement focused on promoting art with a different perspective than what we commonly know, where emerging artists and projects are supported in Mexico. He is in favor of galleries, publishers, art spaces and many other cultural projects that seek the artistic wealth of Mexicans in a more personal way.

In this new edition, a new approach was added by integrating the Accounting service for the art world and legal aid for artists. The “valedores” were present at this event and were part of a space dedicated to Mexican art.

Donation delivery brigades at street points

A clothing and food donation brigade was carried out to improve the quality of life of people in vulnerable situations. Currently, a mapping of all the services aimed at vulnerable populations in Mexico City is being made: low-cost soup kitchens, shelters, free health services and other spaces that contribute to improving the quality of life of these populations.

Thank you very much for your valuable donation! We tell you what we have done.

  • Sales opportunities for our beneficiaries // 1. Oportunidades de venta para nuestros beneficiarios

We continue working to promote a healthy environment and work tools for the beneficiaries of our project: the valedores. Their participation in design bazaars and book fairs in cultural spaces is fundamental for their reintegration processes and is possible thanks to your donation. In recent months we were part of events in spaces such as the Alameda Central, Reforma avenue,  Huerto Roma Verde and the Monument to the Revolution.

  • Art and culture as a pathway to reintegration // 2.

The beneficiaries of our project continue to generate skills and new tools of expression through our training workshops. Thanks to them, they have been able to create pieces that have been exhibited in contemporary art fairs such as Clavo and in a space as representative of Mexico City as the Metro. Vaya, vaya Tacubaya is our first collective exhibition in a public space, and it is presented in the Tacubaya subway of the Metro of Mexico City Collective Transportation System. Let's go for more!

  • Dialogue with the government and other organizations to promote change. // 3.

Our participation in congresses and meetings with important actors in the social and political panorama of Mexico City has allowed us to propose actions in favor of the most unprotected. Thanks to your support we are able to manage our presence in spaces where we discuss ways of accompanying people in street situations through new legislation and policies in which our experience is taken into account.

  • New printed issue! // 4. ¡Nuevo número impreso!

For the beneficiaries of our project it is essential to have a tool that allows them to generate an income. Thanks to your constant support, we obtained the necessary funds to print a new issue of Mi Valedor magazine: number 28, which deals with water issues in the populations of Mexico City and its surroundings. This new issue triggered parallel outreach activities with the general public such as an exhibition, two presentations and many sales events for the benefit of the Valedores.

  •  Donations of personal hygiene items for homeless people. // 5.

We were able to gather a large number of people who donated personal hygiene items for people in vulnerable situations. Through several tours, we delivered them to points in Mexico City where homeless people, sex workers, abandoned elderly people and other priority groups are concentrated.

  • Services and support in legal processes // 6. Servicios y apoyo en procesos legales

Many of our beneficiaries do not have the resources or means to access such basic processes as obtaining an identification document or an eye exam. With your support it has been possible to continue our alliances with health companies and government institutions for their benefit. Dear donor:

In these 4 months, we have managed to bring wellness to the most unprotected sectors of Mexico City, and everything has been possible thanks to your donation. Let’s go for more!

What did we achieve in this quarter?

We organized health prevention campaigns

Working together with the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Condesa Medical Clinic and the Medic laboratory ChektAhora, we carried out health prevention campaigns, where influenza vaccines were applied to street populations, as well as tests for the detection of HIV, syphilis, glucose tests and blood pressure measurements.

We carry out vaccination days at Casa Frida and Casa Lázaro, places where support is provided to people from the LGBTTIQ+ community and homeless people, respectively.

2021’s closure, thanksgiving to our allies and beneficiaries

We organized an event together with U-Storage as a token of appreciation for our closest collaborators, as well as for the Valedores; we projected documentaries made by journalism students from the Technological Institute of Higher Studies of Monterrey, where the stories of the Valedores are told.

Lazos, documentary film

In Lazos, it is narrated what it means to be a Valedor in the words of the Valedores themselves, we find images of the art and photography exhibition that the Valedores set up at the end of 2021.

Workshops and cultural tour are back

With the pandemic giving way more and more, we have begun to resume workshops and museum tours with the Valedores. Thanks to the workshop given by PROEmpleo, the Valedores have received tools to better manage their personal finances. Likewise, we made visits to the Photography Archive Museum, where it was possible to learn more about the history of local markets and Mexican photojournalism.

Both activities provide the Valedores with new useful knowledge for their domestic economy, as well as for the memory and recognition of the historical value of the city they inhabit.

We participated in local bazaars

Once again, we were present in bazaars that seek to encourage local, independent and sustainable commerce within Mexico City. The Valedores participated in the Itinerant Local Bazaar in 2 of its editions.

We reaffirmed this space as one of well-being and healthy coexistence

Carrying out dynamics such as the Rosca de Reyes, on the occasion of Día de los Reyes Magos, and the resumption of the Valedores Saturdays, giving a guided meditation workshop, we reaffirm ourselves as a space where the Valedores can function freely, under an approach that seeks enhance their comprehensive development.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Querido donante:

Cerramos 2021 dando gracias a nuestros beneficiarios y aliados

The most important Book Fair in Mexico City
The most important Book Fair in Mexico City

Dear Donor.

We would like to begin by thanking you. 2021 has been a challenging year, yet it has been filled with wholesome events, all possible with your donations. It is because of you that our project presses forward in achieving its objective: To support the vulnerable populations of Mexico City through workshops, a source of income and, above all, an environment of healthy coexistence.

What have we achieved in this last quarter?

Workshops and training in our Creative Center

Valedores have been able to continue training in crafting their traits in areas such as photography, writing, administration and personal finance. Accompanied by collaborators and our editorial team, the project’s beneficiaries continue to work on their academic skills in a friendly, free, and open enviorment. Throughout these past three months almost 50 hours of training have been given as part of the social working model with which we seek to influence as a positive change in the lives of the Valedores.

Our Presence at the most important Book Fair in Mexico City

We managed to procure a spot in Mexico City’s most prestigious annual Book Fair, Zocalo International Book Fair. Our participation through our bookstand allowed Valedores to interact, sell and network in an environment with recognized publishers. Valedores introduced the project to the public and were able to generate legitimate income, which is particularly useful in these critical times.

Free psychological therapy for Beneficiaries

We know the importance of mental health and the well-being of the individual for a comprehensive social reintegration process. For this reason, we manage the psychological therapy service for the Valedores who request it, and which is given at our facilities on a weekly basis.

Support for specific and individual needs of the beneficiaries

With your donation, we can continue supporting the Valedores´ needs through their journey. Haircuts, personal hygiene, eye exams and free delivery of visual and hearing aids are all being supplied for their well-being. It is because of you that Valedores such as Rodolfo can count on quality medical eyewear, improving their vision and quality of life.

The first collective Exhibition of Mi Valedor

This quarter we were able to complete on of the most ambitious and emotional projects of Mi Valedor: our first collective art exhibition displaying the work the Valedores have created throughout the pandemic. We partnered with Mirada Camarada to display photography, texts and drawings that the Valedores have developed alongside our editorial team through various workshops at our Creative Center or other cultural activities. The exhibition was a SUCCESS!

Finally, we would like to reiterate that these activities are only possible thanks to your continuous support and exposure towards the project. We finish 2021 with only but good news!
