Diwali Celebrations

By Iyyappan Subramaniyan | Founder Managing Trustee

Dear Friends & Well Wishers of Sri Arundoayam,

Greetings to you from the Children of Sri Arunodayam,

I hope this mail finds you all with good health and cheers. We celebrated the Deepavali in a grand manner for the chiildren.

Deepavali is the festival of lights. In sanskrit deepa - avali means a row of lights. The deeper sginificance is tha light dispels darkness. This year our children celebrated Deepavali with joy and love. Here is on account of the celebrations.

On 21st october 2014 the day before Deepavali we suspended all the routine activities for the children. All the staff members applied mehendi  which is an artistic form of skin decoration with herbs. It symbolises cheers and celebrations. So when the children applied mehendi on their hands and feet it was sheer fun to watch their giggles, smiles and laughter. They loved Looking at the design on their hands and legs, comparing it with that of thier friends.

On 22nd october 2014, Deepavali started with a traditional oil bath and all the children wore new dressess. This year our children received 2 sets of new dressess from benevalent well wishers! Every child was so happy to wear crisp new clothes. They had sweets with a sumptuous breakfast. Then it was a fun time - when they burst crackers and excitedly closed their ears and enthusiastically watched the crackers burst. Quite a number of guests dropped in to greet the children and share the joy of celebration. The lunch was a feast and the children were looking forward to the evening for fireworks. After twilight, the children enjoyed themselves with amazing fireworks which lasted for more tha an hour. Tired yet excited about the eventful day, the children had a quiet dinner and went to bed.

We have posted the pictures of our Deepavali celebrations. See the joy that lights up our children's faces.
