This brief report reflects the on-going education program along with the Village of Peace Infrastructure project.

Esther’s Aid Rwanda is moving along step by step while carrying out our development and education empowerment program. It’s been challenging, but our optimism is bringing us successfully to the close of this last quarter. Hospitality is an open-door opportunity that provides the skills and goals that the youths need to thrive as well as contribute to the nations economic development. We are looking forward to expanding our program to cover a two-year diploma in Culinary Arts by 2022.

Esther’s Aid provided the following packages to the youth:

  • Trained the youth on Work Ready Now – Getting youth ready for the job market.
  • Trained the youth on technical skills (Complementary Training Services)
  • Work based learning accompaniment
  • Coaching on starting businesses, how to save save money, access to finance and youth placements at job.

With the growing student body and the demand for service provision in the hospitality arena, we decided to infuse more in the curriculum to meet the emerging hotels service need.

We give employability skill which opens up the career path and opportunities. Enhance the level of service provision to impact the Hospitality value chain and build character and boost self-confidence.

CHALLENGES & SOLUTION

  • The COVID 19 pandemic affected our entire operations and the training timeline
  • Serious financial distress.
  • We still have a lot of optimism that business will bounce back for our donors and helpers
  • We have also learnt to use what we have.

Our partnership with Hotels has enhanced Esther’s Aid professional development and more. We've partnered with thirty hotels & restaurants. After trainings, students are handed over to the hotels for professional touch. The hotel team as experts infuse ethics of professionalism and groom them for the job market. We have so much confidence in the hotel and donor partners

The students Just finished their final year practical presentation. They have also finished a 4 months’ internship program with hotels, restaurants and related food and hospitality agencies.

We use this report to extend our sincere thanks to our GlobalGiving partner for standing with us through this difficult time. God Bless You All!

The Summer is here! Life is almost returning to normal, but not without masks. There’s excitement in the atmosphere as we are on the final discussion on how to continue the VOP construction from where we stopped during Covid-19 lockdown.

We are looking forward to finishing the school block which consists of 9 classrooms. What needs to be completed includes the ceiling, electrical, plumbing, tiling, plastering, painting, installation of doors/windows and landscaping. If funds are available to complete this phase, we hope by September, there would be enough classrooms to receive more students.

Esther’s Aid is reaching out to a team of Engineers who are interested in being part of this project. The ASA Engineering team in Kigali will be putting together the remaining component of the Village of Peace Infrastructure. That would include the clinic, chapel, guest chalets, dormitory, auditorium, state of the arts culinary kitchen and more. With our GlobalGiving donors’ sustained support, we believe every single component and phases of this major project will be completed.

Please if you've not yet given and still want to, there's always the chance to invest in Esther’s Aid Village of Peace Campus, where hundreds of youths are trained and empowered with employability skills in the hospitality industry.

Remember us.    Stay safe.    Stay Blessed.

Happy 2021!  Let me start this brief report by thanking the great team at GlobalGiving and all our donors and friends who supported us through GlobalGiving throughout 2020.

Yes, 2020 was by far the toughest year we have ever faced. In addition to the pandemic and other challenges we grappled with, like unprecedented school closures, economic hardships, and organizational turmoil due to covid-19, we are still here!!

Read the below bullet points to know what happened.

  • Covid-19 Lockdown started in March 15, 2020 Offices/ Schools were closed nation-wide
  • The Village of Peace project came to a grinding halt due to no funding
  • We enhanced our e-learning platform (https://elearning.esthersaid.org ) by adding more courses so students can continue learning.
  • We mobilized some little funding to produce simple cooking videos using basic techniques.
  • Due to Covid-19 Government guidelines, we had to restructure our existing school to accommodate the long-distancing policies. Adding more hand wash stations, more toilet facilities, more chairs, equipping the classrooms with gadgets for easy learning etc. These weighed down on already shoe–string budget we have been operating with for a while now.
  • Lockdown lifted. School reopened in November 2020, but with covid-19 stringent measures.
  • Due to Covid-19 government policy limiting indoor gathering, we optimized Esther’s Aid Pastry Shop by introducing take-out  menu.
  • Finally, 2021 is here. We plan to commence the Village of Peace campus project this first quarter, upon availability of funds. With our GlobalGiving donors’ sustained support, we believe every single component and phases in this major project will be completed.

Please if you've not yet given and still want to, there's always the chance to invest in 2021 to Esther’s Aid Village of Peace Campus. Visit www.esthersaid.org to donate. Thanks and God bless!

It’s already September!! So great to connect again with the GlobalGiving Team, friends, supporters and family through this September report. Many thanks to our donors for your contributions towards our Village of Peace building project.

It was an exciting New Decade as we glided into 2020 with the hope of accomplishing more on our Village of Peace project but the Covid-19 pandemic has halted our progress. In Rwanda, the nationwide lock down came in March as a sudden and disruptive undertaking especially to the educational institutions. The good news is that we had just finished roofing one of the school blocks before the lock down.

Our Challenge

Funding for this project has been an uphill task and the effects of the pandemic has made the situation even more dire since funding from donors has dried up. We are currently still using and maximizing the existing space and adapting to the current situation until things improve.

With your sustained contribution and support, we believe every single component and phase in this major project will be completed. Our dream will certainly come true so we can continue providing life changing skills training to the youths so they can become independent and productive members of their community.

We hope you and your families are all doing well in these challenging times.

So glad to be back with the GlobalGiving Family after being caged for almost 3 months by the novel Covid-19.

Things have changed dramatically since Rwanda’s lockdown and all schools closed on first week of March. Families had to adjust to remote learning, working from home, and more due to the countrywide quarantine.

It truly takes a community and it begins with one person loving and sharing what he or she has. That’s the importance of our work which is even more vital in these unprecedented times. Thank you for being there for us and helping to keep Esther’s Aid visible on your platform!

REPORT:

This brief report spans from January 2020 to March 2020 when the complete lockdown took place.

In the last quarter of 2019, we completed laying of the bricks for Classroom Building #2. Between January and February, 2020, we were able to complete the roofing of Classroom Building #2. This brings us to a total of 10 classrooms in building #2.

We were looking forward to raising funds to do the interior finishing of the classrooms and other components of the infrastructure. Though there is a global economic downturn, we are optimistic that every part of this work will be done and completed someday with the support of our friends, helpers and committed supporters.

We still have a long way to go. But we are optimistic that we will get there!!!
