Education Changes Lives

We believe only education can change children’s lives and escape the poverty and passed down from generations. It is very important for making peace and a vital resource for sustainable development. The Cambodian Children’s House of Peace – CCHP provides food, a safe place and other things that the children need for their education with the purpose that they will grow up not only for the country of Cambodia, but also for the world. Sharing is a greatest way to build the relationship. We are just the same, the human beings on earth. Thank you so much to for your generous support that enables us to care for all the children on the campus.

Home Gardening Practices

In order to help promote the life skills education programs of the public schools here in Cambodia we paid a visit to an organic agricultural station in Siem Reap to learn the ways they plant non-chemical vegetables and to find out the seeds they use. After visiting the station, we went to one of the supermarkets to see different vegetables sold and to learn about prices as well. The children have applied the skills they have learned from a local agriculture promoter and put into practices. This is the first time of harvesting Green Oak, a kind of foreign salads. To appreciate what has been achieved, we had Khmer noodle with these salads as vegetables. They tasted nice and no chemical substances added. We will continue growing more.

Building Friends Nearby

We were so happy to see a group of Malaysian students led by David Si, our old friend who always makes a trip once a year to our organization. Our Asian neighbours such as friends from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore etc., usually paid us visits. They bought us cooking supplies, school materials and other things that our children need. It is such a great help for us. Also, they had dinner and enjoyed dancing together after seeing Khmer Traditional Dance. They always felt sad leaving. We wish them all the best.

September-November

New Academic Year

We had a long holiday this year since there were some changes to our school curriculums run by Cambodian government. Twelve graders took the exam in late September, so all the students including our children started school in October. We were so lucky to be sponsored by visitors from Switzerland directly for school uniforms and then our old friends gave some more donations for our children’s school supplies such as books, rulers, pens, and other necessary needs. As everyone of our children learns that education is the only way to escape the poverty passed down from generations, they have invested a lot of their efforts in their study. Since early morning, our children get up to rehearse their lessons before school starts. They are busy all day long and this routine continues from Monday to Saturday. Good human resources are the exhausted resources for each country.

Visits of old friends

In October and November, two old friends visited Santeheap. Marco from Switzerland stayed for over a week and Jeremy from New Zealand stayed for almost a month to help Santeheap deal with its recent financial crisis. The kids were also very happy to see them and enjoyed the English lessons both gave- and the ice cream Marco treated them to! Because of their generous support, the kids have new school uniforms, and we now have two computers at Santeheap that will increase the kid’s computer literacy and help the staff to work more efficiently. We are very grateful for their continued help and friendship.

A trip to Cambodian Cultural Village during Water Festival

From 5^th to 7^th November, Cambodia celebrated the annual water festival. During the holidays, there was no school, and the kids enjoyed the concerts and especially the boat race. The boat race celebrates the Cambodian navy who defended the country against the invasion by the Cham army during the Khmer Empire. Everyone had a lot of fun and enjoyed the break! But now it’s back to normal and the kids are studying hard.  

A special treat to our kids was provided by our friend Jeremy from New Zealand. He took them to the Cambodian Cultural Village for the day. At the village, art, history and different traditions of Cambodian society are shown and the kids got to see a wedding at a millionaire’s house and chose a bride at a Kreong village. The Kreong are one of several minorities in Cambodia. The kids also got to listen to a history of the great Angkor Kings. Thank you Jeremy for this great day out, everyone had so much fun!

We thank you for you constant supports that enable us to provide services to these potential children and with the determination ,which only our hearts can understand each other, we at Santeheap will do our best to better our children’s lives through education including skills to survive and critical thinking to lead their lives for a better cause of living.
