Introduction
The SIEVE project is steadily emerging as a beacon of hope for the enhancement and transformational journey of communities especially women and youth. This transformational journey began with the simple yet profound step we took of fencing off the Eco Village land creating a free space for women to gather. With sitting benches crafted under the shade of trees women have found a space for meeting points and an environment where their creativity flourishes through beadwork. As women gather at the Eco Village the more community members are starting to join, showing the potential impact of the Eco Village as a catalyst for economic growth and a self-sufficient community.
SIEVE Site Mapping and Commissioning event
The SIEVE Site Mapping and Commissioning was a remarkable and first big event we have held at the Eco Village. This event brought together a team of surveyors and our lead architect for mapping out the key sections of the Eco Village, EmpServe team members, local leadership, community members, invited guests and friends. The commissioning event was marked by a groundbreaking activity which signified the kick off of SIEVE construction projects.
Community Engagement and Ownership
Community involvement and participation in every step of the development process for the SIEVE project remains to be a great commitment we are taking and this time we have even taken it further through various activities conducted at the Eco Village. In this phase the community has taken lead through an appointed community project committee spearheading development projects such as roads, volunteer activities and in construction projects. The project also mapped out 26 social groups that are set to benefit from training and empowerment projects. We have held a series of stakeholder engagement forums with the local leadership led by the area Chief and the Member of County Assembly.
Learning Tour at Boma Noma Eco Lodge and Organic Farm
As we implement the SIEVE Project we are driven by the urge to learn best practices from successful projects both locally and globally. Part of the SIEVE project team visited Boma Noma Eco Lodge and Organic Farm located in Narok County where we learnt a wide range of sustainable practices ranging from construction, community engagement, cultural integration and sustainable farming in drylands areas. A key outcome of this learning tour was an opportunity to collaborate in the design and implement a permaculture system at our demonstration farm site.
Call to Action
