Summary

Social Innovation Eco-Village Project is a grassroots sustainable project targeting women, youth, and households from rural Kenya. The project establishes a community-driven learning, innovation, and livelihoods center with a special provision for safe boarding cottages. The village is a scale-up of our current work focusing on digital skilling, vocational skilling and awareness of key community challenges, idea generation, testing, and supporting change makers to launch community solutions.

Challenge

Over 80% of the unemployed in rural communities in Kenya are youth who lack the technical skills needed for the labor market. Structured job creation efforts have yielded limited results, leaving these youth and their communities in poverty. Traditional development has focused on building infrastructure in cities like Nairobi, neglecting rural areas. This disparity highlights urgent need for targeted support to advance sustainable job creation and innovation in rural ecosystems.

Solution

We are scaling our current Community Digital Centre into a Social Innovation Eco-Village for skilling, job creation, and decent work transition for over 500 vulnerable youth and indirectly benefit 5000 community members annually. SIEVE will focus on innovation, research, and community-driven projects in food security, climate action, and regeneration. Short-term boarding cottages and co-working spaces will counter logistical and geographical barriers, ensuring holistic support for youth &women.

Long-Term Impact

The Eco-Village will promote skills, enhance community livelihoods, foster economic growth, and reduce poverty in rural Kenya. By integrating cultural and environmental conservation practices, the village nurtures progressive and sustainable practices. Youth and women with relevant knowledge skills will be competitive in acquiring decent jobs and like to take action to improve the community they come from. Your investment in SIEVE is promoting long-term socio-economic stability &conservation.
