Graduation! Hongera!
Graduation is a very special day to recognize the achievements and hard work of a student. Sometimes, graduation day from primary school is the only really special celebration in a young Tanzanian's life. So when that day comes, we all say "Hongera!" (Congratulations!) and well done.
Evelyn has done especially well. She was first spotted by GLK as an extremely bright and active young girl. After her mother's death, we were pleased to step in with some financial aid so that she could attend an excellent primary school, Karume Day and Boarding English Medium Primary School (KADBEMPS). Visiting Evelyn and her two GLK scholarship colleagues, Aivan and Suzanne, has always been a pleasure. The school always appears to be clean, well-run, and providing a solid education with additional opportunities. Evelyn was fortunate to take part in a school trip to the Serengeti National Park.
Evelyn has achieved good grades throughout her time at KADBEMPS. She was a school leader and performed well in class (a "promising girl" says her home teacher). At graduation, she took most of the special awards given out, including one for "general performance". We wish her the best on her national exams which will determine a government placement in secondary school. Keep her in your thoughts during this important time.
Hongera Evelyn!
