One of our students who is supported by our GlobalGiving donors is Junior. The GLK Student Fund first learned about Junior shortly after his family was struck with an almost unbelieveable double tragedy. On the same day that Junior and his siblings lost their father in a car accident, his family also lost their home as the result of an earthquake in Bukoba.
Junior's mother contacted members of the GLK Student Fund and asked for help to keep him in school while she also dealt with supporting his other siblings. After speaking with Junior and his mother, the fund agreed to help him with tuition and food support at Lake View Primary School. On a visit in 2017, Gayle and Jessica (from USA) met with Junior and his mother on Lake Victoria to learn more about their family's situation.
The GLK Student Fund has supported Junior from standard three to standard seven which completes primary school. All reports we've received from his teachers whenever the GLK Student Fund staff have visited Lake View were always overwhelmingly positive. He also submits his reports for each term to the GLK trustees and field representative.
This year, Junior graduates from Lake View Primary School. He has taken his national exams and is awaiting the results. We recently received a letter from Junior to "Dear GlobalGiving Donors" expressing his gratitude and his plans post-graduation. He hopes to immediately move onto his secondary-level of education. In the more distant future, Junior wants to become a teacher. Using his teacher salary, he hopes to demonstrate his gratitude to his donors by paying it forward and supporting the next generation of scholars in Tanzania with education.
Thank you again for your contributions and support. With your partnership, we can continue to support students like Junior.
