Our Resource Centre continues to take shape, with most of the remaining renovations now complete. The floors have been tiled and only a few final touch-ups remain, bringing the centre closer to completion.
The computer room is now set up following funding we received to support the project, with new but second-hand computers added to the space. Some of the computers are already connected and being used, while the remaining computers still need to be connected.
Community members are already making use of the available computers, including some of the 1,000 youth we onboarded and supported into employment through the National Youth Service, who are using the connected computers to assist with their work and learning.
The centre continues to support our children and young people who have been coming to our programmes and activities, providing a safe space where they can learn, receive support, develop new skills and make use of available resources. We are now reaching around 130 learners each day, up from around 80, reflecting the continued need for these services within our community.
As more of the remaining computers are connected, we will be able to provide access to more users and create greater opportunities for online learning, information and digital skills development.
We are also seeing young people within our organisation develop valuable digital skills, one of them being Luyolo Mark Buti, who joined NYD as a tutor through the YES Youth at Work Programme, completed International Facilitator Training and earned certificates in Coding with AI and Teaching Coding with AI. His journey is a good example of how opportunities at NYD can help young people build new skills, confidence and experience while contributing to their community.
With the renovations nearing completion and the computer room in place, we are excited to continue building on this progress and expanding access to technology and digital opportunities for children, young people and community members.
We would like to thank everyone who has supported this project and contributed to making this progress possible. Your support is helping us create greater access to digital resources, learning opportunities and technology within the Nyara Villages community.
