Nyara Youth Development continues making steady progress towards the development of the Youth Resource Centre in Nyara Villages, Eastern Cape.
The outside structure of the centre has now been completed, and work on the inside spaces is continuing well. This includes the ongoing setup of the computer room, library, training space, and counselling/wellness room, while work continues to strengthen digital learning access and expand Wi-Fi connectivity for the community.
Access to digital learning opportunities remains an important focus within the area, and the centre is steadily developing into a space that continues strengthening access to learning, connectivity and opportunity for young people and families in the community. Through our after-school programme, NYD continues creating a safe and supportive environment where learners can access tutoring, psychosocial support, life skills activities, and structured learning support while development of the digital learning spaces continues.
Teachers continue sharing positive feedback about improved focus, classroom participation and learner behaviour, while caregivers have also spoken about increased confidence, improved communication and stronger engagement with schoolwork at home.
Alongside the learner support programme, NYD has also continued expanding community development initiatives through the Rural Women Entrepreneurship Development Programme. During the current phase of the programme, 150 young women participated in entrepreneurship and financial literacy training focused on self-employment, business development, and identifying local business opportunities. Programmes like these continue showing how important accessible training spaces, digital resources, and reliable internet connectivity are within rural communities.
One learner, Nimaange Baliso, has shown particularly encouraging progress through consistent support and participation in programme activities. Improvements have been seen in both his behaviour and engagement at school and within the programme environment, highlighting the importance of structured and supportive spaces for young people.
As work on the centre continues, we remain committed to creating a space where young people and community members can access learning opportunities, digital resources, skills development and connectivity that can help strengthen opportunity within the Nyara Villages community.
We are grateful for the continued support towards helping make this vision possible.
