Hello everyone!
This year has been a hard one for the planet and the people and other species on it. Costa Rica has not been an exception, nor our ONG: ASIREA. This year the country entered a financial crisis and very few people are investing in reforestation projects which is one of our mainstays.
In Costa Rica we have a Environmental Payment Service which is financed by a tax on gasoline- yet many land owners do not have access to this incentive because of several reasons such as land tenure, or the government´s priorities or lack of funds. The people we are supporting have risen to the occasion though, and are organized to petition to the government for effective help with their conservation efforts and their basic human rights which are being ignored due to red tape, legal restrictions and, frankly, indifference. ASIREA has been part of this process and we sincerely hope the Ministry of the Environment will be dilligent in helping solve this serious dilema.
We are soon to begin our end of the year fundraising effort, and your contribution will make these families´ Chrsitmas much brighter. Their reality is that they protect hundreds of hectareas of forest...where there are animals as spectacular as jaguars...manatis or tapirs...but they have no income for their efforts.
Our belief is that we can help each other and our fellow species through efforts such as this one.
Thank you for your donations, your continued support and faith in the people.
