This week, the world reeled during the burning of the Amazon. Shock, indignation, anger, dismay and impotency were some of the feelings expressed in news clips and internet exchanges. Meanwhile, the same exact same difficulties play out on Costa Rica in a different way. Here we have many farmers dedicated to protect their forests and our governmente does assure the forests´protection. It is illegal to burn or cut forests. But like famers all over Latin America, many families cannot access the very limited incentives our government offers as Environmental Payments, from a tax paid by users of fossil fuels. These families are becoming more empoverished everyday, because these forests per se do not generate income. The choice of protecting the forest versus quietly cutting it down often is a topic of family economy. And each forest anywhere in the world is a precious source of water and carbon fixing for the local people and the World. For you and your family.
This is why we have this campaign to support, motivate, and walk with five local families that belong to our organization ASIREA. We really do need more help from everyone: our campaign has not been totally successful and we have a long way yo go: 119,719 dollars still. We appreciate the constant small donations.
Please help us spread the word. There are real ways to support people and forests all over the world. Be part of the change! You can donate and share with your friends. All the resources will be gathered and divided between the families at the end of the years to support them in their effort. YOU and every donor will recieve every bit of information about this! Thank you for reading this report.
