Little Nhi, just three months old, needed life-saving heart surgery.   Her parents faced a dire predicament: she needed life-saving heart surgery to survive.

Her journey had been tumultuous. Born with a visible struggle for breath and a dusky complexion, Nhi's parents sensed something was definitely wrong from the start. Her difficulty nursing only added to their concerns.

Their fears were confirmed when a visit to the clinic’s midwife revealed a life-threatening heart defect. The news was devastating for the family.  They were from a remote community, miles away from the main hospital. Affording the cost of heart surgery seemed like an impossibility.  How could they, as common village laborers, possibly afford such a surgery?   But with urgency in their hearts, they took Nhi to the main cardiac hospital many miles way. 

They came by motorcycle, the only transportation available.  It was a long and difficult trip.  When the cardiac doctor confirmed that Nhi needed urgent surgery they were devastated and yet relieved at the same time.  She could be helped.  What should they do?   The Charity Department at the hospital proposed involving MEDRIX to help provide a "Charity-Cardiac" donation.  Everyone recognized the urgency of Nhi's situation and agreed to the surgery. 

Thanks to the generosity of donors of MEDRIX, Nhi underwent the surgery that saved her life. The relief and gratitude felt by her parents was immeasurable. To date, MEDRIX has helped approximately 230 infants and children in similar situations by providing life-saving heart surgeries.  With her breathing vastly improved, Nhi could now nurse without exhaustion, her once-pale complexion now infused with a rosy hue, due to her surgery and the now healthy heart function.
