Devastating News - But Ther is Hope!

By LaRelle Catherman | Executive Director

Van’s Hope, Join Us Today

Meet Van, a 12-year-old boy who dreams of keeping up with his classmates.

At school, Van knows he is smaller than many of his peers. During physical education and classroom games, he often struggles to keep up. Shortness of breath and discomfort have made ordinary childhood activities difficult. Even his brother who is two years under than Van can run and play without getting tired.

Van knows that something is wrong with his heart. When a new doctor in his small village explained the situation to his parents, the family learned that surgery could offer Van the hope of a healthier heart and a brighter future. There were lots of question.

Van was frightened. His parents were hesitant and worried about the seriousness of the surgery. And how could they pay for the surgery? Their family simply did not have the financial resources to cover the cost.

What could they do? Where could they turn for help?  Then, the doctor told them about a special program and introduced them to the hospital's Pediatric Cardiac Charity Department.

After careful review of Van’s need and the family situation the hospital and MEDRIX partnered in the support of Van’s need for lifesaving heart surgery.  Van’s family promised that after his surgery and recovery they would allow him to return to school to join his friends.

Today, as I write this note, Van is recovering in the hospital's Cardiac Recovery Center. He is not yet ready to go home, but he is receiving and already talking about joining his friends back in school

There is hope for Van — and for other children facing the same or similar circumstances.

Your gift to MEDRIX will help give another child like Van, the opportunity to have lifesaving heart surgery,  recover, return home, and look forward to a future filled with possibilities including “keeping up” with their classmates.
