Big news! While we’ll be continuing to help vulnerable Filipino families stay healthy during and after the annual floods that affect their communities, we’ll be using a new fundraising format here on GlobalGiving moving forward. As a consequence, we’ll be retiring this project on GlobalGiving.

Why retire a fundraising page for a project which is still on-going you ask? Great question.

With GlobalGiving’s new Micro Project feature, it’s easier and more effective for us to raise the funds we need for our health work via a series of smaller Micro Projects under one of our larger projects - “Help Filipino Communities Prepare for Disaster”. Micro Projects are exactly like general projects on GlobalGiving except they’re smaller and have only 90 days to reach their funding target.

Fundraising via a series of smaller Micro Projects rather than this main project gives us greater flexibility to fundraise for exactly what communities need when they need it. This means we will be able to respond to community needs more effectively and spend more time on the frontline developing projects!

From now on, we’ll be providing updates on how we’re helping Filipino disaster survivors stay healthy via “Help Filipino Communities Prepare for Disaster”. You can check out that page for updates.

Alternatively, if you’d still like updates on our health work here in Banaba straight to your inbox just email Emma@IDVolunteers.org and we’ll put you on our mailing list. As always, if you have any questions about how we’re using your funds don’t hesitate to email the above address. We’d be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks so much for supporting health care and education for disaster survivors, and we hope you’ll enjoy our new fundraising format here on GlobalGiving!
Very Kind Regards,
Emma

Give Mae mom basic medications during floods

We’re delighted to announce that our work here in the Philippines is growing rapidly. And it’s a good thing we’re growing so quickly because the rains are coming! The rainy season officially started on June 1st, and it’s raining every night now. We need to get ready now for the floods that are undoubtedly on their way.

With floods come water-borne illnesses, so we urgently need to stockpile emergency stores of soap, basic medicines, and water purification tablets. These supplies will ensure that when kids like Mae are forced to evacuate alongside their families, we’ll be able to keep them fed and healthy during and after floods.

Tomorrow (June 12), GlobalGiving will add 50% to any donation you make. That means that when you give just $10, GlobalGiving will top your donation up to $15 and we’ll be able to feed a flood survivor Mae for three days.

Thanks so much, and please spread the word about this fantastic opportunity!

Help the families in these homes stay healthy
Help the families in these homes stay healthy

We’re absolutely delighted to announce that we’ve begun new sustainable health care and education initiatives in the Philippines!

This work is going to be wide ranging, but it will all take place on the outskirts of Manila in the community of Banaba. Banaba is flanked by two rivers, so it is extremely vulnerable to flooding. We’ll be working in close partnership with a local community group called Buklod Tao. Together, we’ll work to ensure that Banaba's residents have the tools they need to stay healthy so they’ll be more able to cope with the effects of flooding.  We'll also provide emergency health supplies during and after floods.

To accomplish these goals, we’ll work with Buklod Tao to improve food security, provide water filtration systems, build and equip a community pharmacy and, of course, provide health education.

These are exciting initiatives which promise to be our most sustainable investments in health to date, but we need your help to ensure we have the funding we need to execute all our plans! Tomorrow, GlobalGiving will be matching all donations by 30%! That means that if you give just $20, we’ll be able to stockpile soap for a family to use after floods.

If you can afford a bit more, a $50 donation lets us stockpile basic medical supplies for a family in an evacuation center. Even if you can’t give, you can share this link to let friends and family know how easy it is to change lives in the Philippines!

Thanks so much for all you’ve given, and our warmest regards!

We can’t believe it’s February already. If you’re like us, February means one thing – Valentines Day! Whether your single or in a relationship, Valentines Day is all about love and appreciating the people in our lives who support and encourage us.

This Valentines Day, there are dozens of individuals in Haiti who are thankful for you. After all you’ve already given them the gift of health and, with it, the hope of a bright future. There are also hundreds of Filipino survivors who are looking forward to our arrival and, with it, your support!

If you’re thinking about what to get your Valentine, we hope you’ll keep disaster survivors in mind. When you make a donation in honor of your Valentine they’ll receive a beautiful card. GlobalGiving cards change lives and make lovely, meaningful Valentines Gifts.

To give your Valentine a meaningful gift, just click here and select what type of card you’d like along with your gift amount.

Thanks so much for supporting disaster survivors, and we wish you a very happy Valentines Day!

Thanks for helping her stay healthy!
Thanks for helping her stay healthy!

We're extremely excited to announce that EDV has been awarded $32,000 which we'll use to start operations in the Philippines in early 2013! This is fantastic news, and we can't wait to repeat the successes we had in Haiti.

Your generosity made it possible for us to help disaster affected Haitians stay healthy in 2011 and 2012. In 2013, we'll take the lessons we've learned forward to the Philippines, and we hope you'll be there with us!

We hope that you'll support our future work in the Philippines by setting up a recurring donation. Your donation will be matched by a generous donor and will give us the funds we need to protect the health of vulnerable in the Philippines. You can set up a recurring donation by clicking on “Monthly Recurring” under the orange “donate” button on our project page.

Not ready to commit to a year of giving? No problem – why not give the gift of giving to a loved one? When you make a donation in honour of a loved one on GlobalGiving, they’ll receive a beautiful card and together you will change a life this holiday season. To give your gift go to the “Gift or in-Honour of” button under the orange “donate” button on the project page.

Thanks so much, and Happy Holidays!
