Help us Stop Stigmatization of Sickle Cell Kids I

By Elizabeth Elachi | Project Leader

Dear partners,

One of the most painful forms of stigmatization sickle cell children face happens in the very place they go for help — the hospital. Many families report that when they arrive at emergency rooms during a crisis, their children are not prioritized. Some health workers assume they are “frequent visitors,” or that their pain is exaggerated. Others simply do not understand the urgency of sickle cell complications.

This lack of attention often leads to delayed treatment, longer crises, and avoidable suffering. Parents describe waiting for hours while their child struggles with severe pain, fever, or breathing difficulty. Over time, these experiences create fear and mistrust of the healthcare system.

Your support helps us advocate for better treatment, provide access to preventive care, and reduce the number of emergency visits where stigmatization often occurs. Every donation helps us ensure sickle cell children receive the respect and timely care they deserve.

Thank you for standing with them.
