Help Sickle Cell Kids face school exams with courage

By Elizabeth Elachi | Project Leader

Dear partners,

Preparing for exams is stressful for any student, but for children and young adults living with sickle cell disease, the pressure is even greater.

Sickle cell disease is unpredictable. Pain crises, fatigue, and infections can occur without warning. Many of these students live with the constant fear of having a crisis in the middle of an exam. They worry about falling behind, missing exams, or being judged for absences they cannot control. Some also fear that their condition will limit their future opportunities.

Beyond the physical symptoms, sickle cell disease affects mental health. Research shows that children and adolescents with chronic illnesses, including sickle cell disease, have higher rates of anxiety, depressive symptoms, and schoolrelated stress.

Even when they are capable and motivated, their health often dictates how much they can achieve. Over time, this can affect selfesteem, motivation, and overall confidence.

Your support helps us provide the medical care these students need to stay focused during exam periods. Through this project, donations help fund hydroxyurea to reduce pain crises, preventive care such as immunization, wound care, and mentalhealth support.

A $25 donation provides a month of hydroxyurea for one child, helping reduce pain episodes and giving them a better chance to stay on track academically. Our goal is to ensure that sickle cell disease does not limit a child’s education.

Thank you for standing with sickle cell children
