Restore Dignity to 500 Women with Fistula in Kenya

During this reporting period, Gynocare introduced the Tumaini Hub, in collaboration with our partner Chameleon Buddies, as a new and important extension of our ongoing women’s health project. While our work has long focused on obstetric fistula repair and cervical cancer prevention, we identified a growing unmet need among women living with stomas, many of whom are fistula survivors or cancer patients.

The Tumaini Hub was integrated into the project to ensure continuity of care beyond surgery. For women with stomas, healing does not end in the operating theatre. Ongoing access to stoma supplies, proper hygiene education, and psychosocial support is essential for recovery, dignity, and reintegration into daily life. Without this support, many women face infections, discomfort, and renewed social isolation.

By embedding the Tumaini Hub within our existing outreach, rehabilitation, and counseling framework, Gynocare expanded the project’s impact while using the same trusted community networks and survivor support systems. Women now receive not only life-saving or life-restoring surgery, but also long-term support that enables them to manage their condition confidently at home.

In addition to launching the Tumaini Hub, Gynocare continued to provide treatment for women suffering from obstetric fistula, cervical cancer screening services, and rehabilitation workshops focused on psychosocial healing, skills building, and reintegration. These workshops help survivors rebuild confidence, regain independence, and reconnect with their families and communities.

This integration reflects our holistic approach to women’s health, responding to real needs as they emerge and ensuring that no woman is left behind after treatment. The Tumaini Hub strengthens the project’s sustainability by supporting recovery, reducing complications, and empowering women to live full, dignified lives.

Over the past few months, Gynocare Fistula Centre has continued its mission to restore dignity, health, and hope to women and girls through innovative care and community outreach. We are proud to share that we have successfully hosted two Mini Laparoscopy Surgical Camps and Workshops, three impactful days of teamwork, skill, and compassion that brought advanced care closer to women who need it most. From managing fibroids and ovarian cysts to addressing sub-fertility, chronic pelvic pain, and fistula surgeries, every procedure marked a step toward restoring health and dignity.

Our community outreach initiatives have provided lifesaving women’s health interventions. Over 250 women received cervical cancer screening, 50 underwent HPV DNA testing, and 600 girls received the HPV vaccine, protecting a new generation against cervical cancer and empowering them to take charge of their health.

We also conducted five fistula screening and cervical cancer outreach campaigns, reaching women in remote communities who would otherwise lack access to care. To further empower survivors, we held two Women’s Fistula Survivors and Stoma Business Workshops, where over 30 women were supported to start small businesses. These workshops provided skills training and mentorship, fostering economic independence and confidence among survivors.

A major highlight was the Stoma Awareness and Support Initiative, where women were educated on attaching and managing stomas safely. Through this effort, Chameleon Buddies established a dedicated hub, the Tumaini Hub, supported by Gynocare. The hub provides free stoma bags, personalized health advice, and peer support for patients with stomas, ensuring continuous care and dignity.
