Support Nepali Women with Mental Health Heal

The “Healing Hearts” project continues to make meaningful progress in 2026, providing much-needed mental health support to women in rural Bardiya. In the first quarter of this year (January–March 2026), we conducted one trauma-informed counseling sessions and one community awareness workshop, directly reaching 12 women.

This session focused on trauma processing, stress management, building emotional resilience, and breaking the silence around mental health.

Many participants have shared that these sessions have helped them feel less isolated, more hopeful, and better equipped to handle daily challenges. Families have also begun to recognize the importance of mental well-being, creating a positive ripple effect in the community.

The Women Welfare Foundation is deeply committed to addressing the severe gap in mental health services in Nepal, especially for women affected by conflict and disaster. Despite limited funding in this sector, we continue to expand our reach with determination and care.

2025 has been a transformative and impactful year for the Women Welfare Foundation. We are incredibly proud of the strides we've made in empowering women and girls across Nepal through our key pillars of climate education and women's health, including vital mental health support.

In our climate literacy initiatives, we successfully reached 5 additional schools in 3 different districts, delivering interactive programs focused on climate challenges and sustainable practices. This effort directly benefited more than 400 participants, mainly students and teachers, and over 700 indirect beneficiaries, such as family members and community networks, who have embraced the knowledge shared. Building on our existing reach of over 1,500 beneficiaries who continue to adopt eco-friendly habits like sustainable farming and effective waste management, these sessions have equipped participants with practical tools to build long-term environmental resilience in their communities. We also held capacity-building and advocacy sessions with 3 local governments, promoting gender-responsive climate policies and fostering collaborations that integrate women's voices into decision-making for a more inclusive and sustainable future.

Alongside this, our mental health programs have continued to address the deep stigma and neglect surrounding this critical issue in Nepal, where funding remains scarce. Through comprehensive advocacy, counseling, and workshops, we've provided essential resources to women and girls in rural areas. A highlight was the ongoing “Healing Hearts” project in Bardiya, supporting women affected by the armed conflict with trauma-informed group counseling sessions that created safe spaces for sharing experiences and breaking taboos around mental health. These initiatives have helped participants rebuild emotional strength, resilience, and confidence amid challenges like widowhood, violence survival, and economic hardship. By year's end, our mental health efforts have directly benefited over 1,035 women and girls, contributing to broader healing and empowerment.
