The beginning of this academic school year (2017/2018) marks the 15th year that the RISE Foundation has offered the Goal Card program to grade-school students in Memphis and Shelby County, Tennessee. All sites are in high poverty areas and where school attendance has been problematic.
Since 2003, Goal Card has provided school supplies as well as incentives; ranging from portable electronic devices to store-brand gift cards of all types. With well more than million dollars invested in hundreds of students in Memphis' most impoverished communities, RISE’s Goal Card program continues to engage students with volunteer Coaches/Mentors to help educate, enlighten and empower youth to become goal-setters and asset-builders for life. This work has produced improvements in the academic achievement of student participants, as well as a 95% graduation rate which moved to 100% this year for high schoolers.
The RISE Goal Card staff have gotten the year started with a great recruitment and encouragement effort, by visiting each of the Goal Card sites with food, fund and school gifts to support their success. As with every program, there are requirements and this year’s kick-off included that and much more.
During this enrollment activity, students were given a program overview, as well as program expectations and, once again, students were treated to FREE school supplies and nutritious refreshments, as we kicked-off the new school year with a cheer, “Hooray Goal Card Members!!!” With more than three hundred students already enrolled prior to Labor Day, we are off to a fantastic year with more students enrolling before the end of the first nine week period?
Your continued support makes this program possible and every dollar raised goes to support the purchase of incentives for each student. With your contribution, you can help more students to seriously look (as the student in this picture) at the advantages of joining Goal Card so they can be the very best that they can be in school!
