Goal Card Students preparing for a successful year
Last school year was super but RISE is proud to to see parents not only enrolling their youth in school on time but making sure that they are re-enrolled in the Goal Card program. Beginning school on time is important because teachers begin instruction on day one and RISE strongly believes that each day lost impacts on the students future academic achievement.
That's why RISE staff was available at all of the schools on registration day and the few students who did not show up for registration were contacted by Goal Card staff to find out if there were problems.
For the past 9 years RISE Goal Card students have out-performed their peers and based on registration and the first "Lunch and Learn" series, that began the last week in August, this year will be no different. The problem faced now is having more students wanting to enroll in the program and not enough money to add new youth.
Please remember that your support will allow more students to participate in this incentive program that encourages students to do their very best school work, attend school every day possible and maintain good conduct grades.

Goal Card students say "Thank You" to Volunteers!

Goal Card Volunteers and a few students
At the end of each school year, RISE and a few of the Goal Card students gather to thank the volunteers, who provide coaching sessions for the youth each school reporting period. This year, the event was held on June7th and hosted by a RISE Board member whose home happened to be on the golf course where the FedEx St. Jude Golf Classic was being held. Goal Card staff grilled up hamburgers and hot dogs while the youth talked and thanked the volunteers individually for all of their help, while viewing the golfers as they finished their game.
Several of the youth present were preparing for college and of course the volunteers continued in their coaching mode by sharing with them some of the pitfalls that they will face in their first year of college. A few students who graduated last year returned and validated the advice being given. The food was good and the setting was a new experience not only for the students but for some of the volunteers as well.
Goal Card continues to impact the 38126 area in Memphis. Thank you for your support in helping us to fulfill our mission of empowering people to become self-sufficient by building and sustaining human and financial assets.

The Goal Card Program held another successful Redemption Day in January 2012. Volunteers from University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center and International Paper helped students with tutoring, as well as tallying points received for good grades and conduct to collect incentive's prizes. Additionally, Mrs. Heath Faraci, wife of International Paper CEO, John Faraci attended the event as a volunteer.
In addition to inspiring youth to excel in their studies, Goal Card teaches them about financial literacy and preparation for the future. RISE will host Planning for Your Future, a symposium for 11th and 12th graders. Attendees will explore various career paths, as well as discuss with professionals and participate in activities that illustrate the education and skills needed for those careers. The event will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the University of Memphis.
