Friends of GlobeMed,
Though the 2015-16 school year has come to a close and our chapter members have dispersed around the country and world to take advantage of some amazing summer opportunities, GlobeMed at WashU is still hard at work - at home and abroad - building alongside our partner organization, Uganda Development and Health Associates. Our team of six GROW interns arrived in Uganda about two weeks ago. From their blog posts and pictures it looks like they’re having a blast and working incredibly hard. In regards to the transition that our GROW interns are experiencing, Akash, one of the interns, shared the following thoughts:
"Walking up to UDHA was a very strange feeling. Over my time in GlobeMed, we always mention UDHA, especially when fundraising. To be here though, everything we do as a chapter became so much more tangible. In other words, every finals gift basket we sold was equated to supplies that UDHA could use to help conduct a school outreach or do a cooking session. Honestly, I felt so engrossed in the brotherhood while there."
Their first job on site was to create a budget for the coming year, which relates directly to our chapter’s inspiration to raise funds and do the work that we do. From the St. Louis base, we are already thinking about how to maximize our efforts right from the beginning of the school year and, potentially, planning events and fundraisers over the summer. Hearing about the initiatives that UDHA is building out - including an expanded Youth Resource Center and sexual education opportunities - lights a spark for us all and compels us to move forward enthusiastically.
Despite our momentum, though, our entire chapter and brothers and sister at UDHA are incredibly grateful for your continued support and interest in the work that we do. Without thought partners, donors, support networks, and friends we would not achieve the lofty goals that we set for ourselves each year. We look forward to continuing to work alongside you all, sincerely thank you for your support, and encourage you to stay in touch over the summer or follow the adventures of our GROW interns by visiting their blog at globemedwu.org.
In solidarity,
GlobeMed at Washington University in St. Louis
