Dear Friends,
We are extremely excited to start off the new 2014-15 academic year that will be filled with much exictement and enthusiasm towards the movement of global equity. We have already started planning two big fundraiser for the year. The first event is a Golf Outing Fundraiser that will be held in Mid-October. We are anticipating alot of participation from students as well as thier families since the fundraiser is held during the annual Parent and Family Weekend at Wahington University's campus. We believe that this event will be very successful because it it accessable to the entire Washington University student population and allows us promote our movement towards global equity across a large population of people. The second big fundraiser is a marathon, half-marathon, and 5K race for Go! for St. Louis. We are an official charity for the organization for Go! St. Louis and we will have a team of 50 people (projected estimate) that will fundraise for us to participate in the race. This event will take place in April of 2015. These two large fundraisers are projected to raise at least $1500 each. We also plan on having at least one smaller or medium sized fundraiser every month of the school year as well as the annual individual giving funraiser. We are very excited to see what this year has instore for our GlobeMed Chapter. We are very grateful and thankful for your past support and without your generosity, we would not be able to do the accomplish our goals for our partner. If you would like to support us again this year as we fight to help our partners make real differences in their communities, please find out how on our new website:http://washu9.wix.com/globemedatwashu.
Some of the GROW intern team’s major tasks for this summer focused on capacity building. They edited and condensed UDHA’s strategic plan, assisted in brainstorming for and completing grant applications, created social media presentations covering Google Docs, Facebook and Twitter, and created a manual for future interns. Additionally, they spent a great deal of time directly observing and participating in the activities being carried out by both the Nutrition Project and Youth Resource Centre. Both projects are going really well—the Nutrition Project has recently expanded to cover the entire parish, and the Youth Resource Centre carries out successful outreaches and has a thriving peer educator program. A great deal of their internship focused on strengthening our partnership through developing personal relationships and learning from one another organizations. In the future, we’re looking to see improvements in some organizational tasks at UDHA and monitoring and evaluation of their projects.
