The National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) of Indonesia, through its BAZNAS Disaster Response Team (BTB), distributed 48,000 liters of clean water to communities affected by drought in Sindang Resmi Subdistrict, Pandeglang Regency, Banten.
The clean water distribution has reached 250 households. This aid effort is ongoing and continues to reach a wider range of communities affected by the drought, including those in Pandeglang.
The Head of BAZNAS RI’s Division of Distribution, Utilization, and Empowerment, H. Idy Muzayyad, S.H.I., M.Si., stated that this clean water distribution represents BAZNAS RI’s rapid response to assist communities facing difficulties accessing clean water due to the drought.
“Clean water is a basic need that must be met immediately. When people have difficulty obtaining water, the impact is immediately felt in their daily lives—whether for drinking, cooking, or maintaining hygiene,” said Idy in a written statement in Jakarta on Wednesday (July 29, 2026).
Idy noted that the distribution of clean water is one way BAZNAS RI is present to assist communities facing hardships due to the drought. This assistance is expected to ease the burden on residents while meeting the basic needs of the affected communities.
“We must not allow this lack of access to clean water to create new beneficiaries,” he emphasized.
Idy said that providing access to clean water is one of BAZNAS’s efforts to deliver the direct benefits of zakat to communities facing clean water shortages.
“One of the areas of focus in providing access to clean water is Pandeglang, West Java. This region frequently experiences droughts, yet it is also one of the country’s food-producing regions,” said Idy.
“Therefore, providing access to clean water is extremely urgent. We must ensure that communities do not struggle to obtain water for their daily needs, while at the same time they must continue their agricultural activities as their source of livelihood,” he added.
Furthermore, Idy stated that BAZNAS RI will continue to expand the distribution of clean water to remote areas across Indonesia affected by drought or post-disaster conditions to help communities meet their basic needs while preventing greater social and economic impacts resulting from limited access to water.
“Clean water distribution is a rapid response to help communities meet their basic needs amid drought conditions. In the long term, concerted and sustained efforts are needed to strengthen community access to adequate and reliable water sources,” he said.
Meanwhile, one of the beneficiaries, Khalid (46), who works as a farmer, expressed his gratitude for the clean water assistance provided by BAZNAS RI. According to him, this assistance is very timely for him and the people of Pandeglang, who are currently still facing a drought, especially for meeting their daily needs.
"Thank you to BAZNAS for providing clean water assistance. This assistance is very helpful for me in meeting my daily needs. Before this assistance was available, I had to walk several kilometers to reach the nearest water source, which is the Cilimatan River,” said Khalid.
A similar sentiment was expressed by another beneficiary, Puji Rahayu (26), who said she was helped by the clean water distribution from BAZNAS RI. As a homemaker with two toddlers, access to clean water is a vital need for her family.
“Alhamdulillah, we really need this clean water. Especially since I have two toddlers who need clean water for their daily needs,” said Puji.
The distribution targets are spread across 34 provinces in Indonesia affected by drought and post-disaster conditions. By 2026, distribution will have reached 32 locations spanning the regions of Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra.
In implementing this program, BAZNAS tailors its interventions to the conditions and needs of each region. These efforts include drilling wells or installing water pipelines, providing water storage tanks, and distributing clean water via water tank trucks.
