We obtained 98% compliance on the visit by the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare, for verification of standards and guidelines established for protection institutions.

During the quarter 10 children were integrated to their families to achieve the objectives in the process of comprehensive care. 

Interconsultation with different health professionals such as psychiatrists and neuropsychologists strengthened, which enabled the establishment of targets for intervention oriented functionality of children and adolescents cognitive, behavioral, emotional, family and social level.

Achieving manage medications, some for free and others at low cost Institute of Health Provider based Guayaquil, Antioquia Mental Hospital Almacentro headquarters and a volunteer doctor for the treatment of children and adolescents with differential diagnoses. 

We manage voluntary general practitioner performing medical assessments for free to strengthen the focus of children and adolescents.

 

Academic, nutritional, among other achievements.


100% of children and adolescents began the academic experience highlighting the motivation for the study and integration with children and adolescents in the sector.

The strategy implemented by the area of pedagogy in accompanying tasks was strengthened by linking two students of the Training Centre of Antioquia that will support during 2016 with emphasis on the academic process.

Nine children were highlighted by the academic performance and commitment in Educational Institutions Manuel José Cayzedo and Miraflores.

 

Activities with families

Currently 15 children and teenagers are hanging out with their families with the aim of sharing outside the Corporation other spaces, and participating in activities with other members of the extended family. The experience has been evaluated positively achieving the objectives.

Fraternal meetings with protection agencies "Hogares PAN" and "Corporación Colina Amigo" achieving strengthen emotional bonds between children and adolescents and their institutionalized brothers were made.

The psychoeducational counseling and work continued appearing as an opportunity for families to clarify their doubts regarding specific issues, promoting the effective exercise of their role with children and adolescents.

Families positively assessed the services received at the Corporacion Superarse through satisfaction survey administered by the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare.

 

Educational activities

Children and adolescents are in the process of choosing their representatives to the Institutional Government with the aim of promoting active participation in community life.

The children made crafts on the occasion of Women's Day and participated in pedagogical reflections that promote good treatment and respect for the female gender.

Film and Literature The project got children have tools on the importance of applying the different manners in living spaces.

Two young men were linked to processes of pre employment training at the National Apprenticeship Service and Systems Center Antioquia.

COMFAMA renewed the agreement to benefit children and adolescents project "Exploring the Web" and "Promotion of Reading".

During this period we had valuable achievements:

- The Corporation Superarse celebrated 45 years of service to children and youth with a solemn
eucharist, it was a special meeting that was attended by children, adolescents, families, staff, board and organizations that are part of the institutional support network.

- Two children were integrated into their families, entering a child with declaration of adoptability and other with socio-legal infringement.

- Psychology area participated in the Youth Coexistence "What connects you with life" led by the program "Preparation for Independent Living", which aimed to encourage children and adolescents who are under preparation for discharge the recognition of protective factors and individual generativity in their life projects.

- Strengthened institutional management, 15 children were treated in Dentistry with volunteer professionals.

- The Neurological Institute of Colombia assigned neuropaediatric appointments contributing to the specialized care of four children.

- The Health Center of Loreto neighborhood is linked through the service of Optometry, with free delivery of lenses made for 6 children.

 

Academic, nutritional, among other achievements

- Eight children and teenagers received awards in their educational institutions, to stand out in their groups' efforts and dedication, "" Leadership "and" ownership ".

- The academic results were excellent, achieving the goal of promoting and objectives for 2015.

- Four brigades hygiene and self-care helping were performed, to strengthen the daily routines of children and adolescents.

- During the visit of ICBF (Colombian Family Welfare Institute) to monitor the processes of comprehensive care, they highlighted the excellent management “Bienestarina Más”, nutritional supplement.

- With educational institutions in the sector the process of support and commitment of the Corporation Superarse highlighting the academic achievements of children and adolescents during 2015 and the impact of raising teachers to handle special situations assessed.

 

Activities with families

- Currently 16 children and adolescents are coming with their families or relatives concerning the purpose of sharing out of the Corporation other spaces, and participating in activities with other members of the extended family. The experience was evaluated positively achieving the objectives.

- Nine workshops led by social work was issued, "Promotion of Good Treatment and Prevention of Child Abuse", "It is possible in Family" and "Family Friendly Blanca Luz Restrepo".

- The psychoeducational work and the work of counseling continued appearing as an opportunity for families to clarify their concerns against specific issues, promoting the effective exercise of their role with children and adolescents.

 

Educational activities

- Monitoring conducted with children and adolescents to the pact of coexistence and the "Due Process" showed introjection of the basic rules.

- Children and adolescents participated in six interdisciplinary workshops with an emphasis on healthy living and promoting appropriate interpersonal relations.

- The closure of teacher training processes was performed, highlighting the satisfaction of children, adolescents and families for the activities undertaken during the year.

We have made significant progress thanks to your contribution. Here are our main accomplishments for this period:

  • We achieved a remarkable 98% score on Quality Standards Verification from the Colombian Family Welfare Institute ICBF on their last visit for the process of restoration of rights.
  • We have expanded our health care coverage program, currently benefiting 43 children and adolescents with protective measures.
  • Children and adolescents participated in the Friendship Tournament organized by the Police for Children and Adolescents with the participation of all institutions.
  • We started training in Fine Arts with the support of the Mayor of Medellin, promoting the development of artistic skills in children and adolescents.
  • 100% of children and adolescents benefited from flute lessons because of the agreement reached with Yamaha.

Children and adolescents actively led the following Nutrition and Health activities:

  • "The Wonderful World of nutrients and your body"
  • "Your health and personal hygiene"

100% of children and adolescents achieved academic goals for the third school term, which accounts for institutional support through the strengthening of study habits.

Seven children occupied the first place in their respective grades for their excellent academic performance.

85% of children and adolescents made significant progress in weight and size, improving their nutritional status.

100% of children and adolescents were evaluated by general medicine and dentistry.

20% of children and adolescents required specialized Psychiatric care with a mental health diagnosis.

 

Activities with families

Families participated in the following activities:

  • General Aspects of childhood and adolescence Act, related to the process of care in the internship modality
  • Recognition of my city
  • Coexistence "Is possible in family"

-We celebrated Family Day at the Lido theater in the city of Medellin, with the participation of 300 people, including families, children and employees.

-The Representatives of the families of institutional government actively participated in updating the pact of coexistence.

 

Educational activities

Children and adolescents gained important knowledge through the following activities:

  • Live the Festival of Flowers
  • Congratulations Dad
  • Let's detail for our mothers
  • Friendship, the basis of our relationships

The Parque Explora facilitated the participation of children in an educational activity that allowed them to integrate technological knowledge into their education

The Parade of children and adolescents of the Corporation in La Feria de la Antioqueñidad – regional fair organized by educational institutions and The Inder - made us worthy of the top spot by making saddles and decoration typical awning.

16 years old attending 6th grade in the Educational Institution Miraflores. He has benefited from the Process of Restoration of Rights for two years in the Corporation.

Children and adolescents that actually have shelter in the foster home belong to 19 family groups who are 100% compromised with the process.

The quality supervisor team from the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare visited our house to renew our license; they also approved the changes made in infrastructure in order to receive 18 new beneficiaries for the program. They gave us a favorable concept and stablished a new installed capacity for 43 children and adolescents.

During this trimester children developed activities regarding the child´s month, we achieved awareness of the group in the subject of rights and duties.

In our project “Building with our hands”, the children handcrafted different products which developed their creativity and imagination.

The psychology team worked with the children and their families in healthy parenting habits, physical and psychological transformation in the adolescence, the importance of an assertive communication and the process of grieving.

Academic and nutritional achievements:

The children got excellent academic grades for the second trimester, proving the effectiveness of the pedagogical program.

We enhanced inter institutional support with Comfama and Metrosalud in order to attend the health needs of our children.

We continue with our program to enhance reading abilities in the beneficiaries using the construction of stories, which contribute in their language development and pronunciation.

Three of our children obtained the first place in the knowledge state tests.

Colombia is a developing country characterized by its high levels of social and economic inequality, which affect directly many children and families. More than 30% of Colombian population live in poverty conditions, of whom 10% are classified in extreme poverty. This is linked to situations of violence, neglect, drug trafficking and lack of opportunities (DANE, 2013).

Therefore, the country requires programs to help respond to the need to provide protection and ensure a comprehensive development to vulnerable children. In Superarse, we offer integral care to 25 children and young people living in situations of abuse, mistreatment, neglect and violence, issues that prevents them from living with their families. We provide them with decent shelter, complete and balanced food, education, school support, psychosocial support, human formation and health.

The house where children and youth live has been fully refurbished, improving the delivery of services and expanding the capacity of 25 to 40 users.

These are the main achievements for the first trimester in the program:

  • The children spent their Christmas holydays in the company of trained families in Sopetran, enjoying the possibility to share family experiences that they do not have in their daily routines
  • 100% of the children are enrolled in the education system, through educational institutions in the sector; furthermore, we implemented strategies of effective school support
  • The children started their participation in cultural and sport programs which contribute developing capacities and abilities
  • The children received interdisciplinary attention (Neurology, Psychiatry, Odontology…)  reaching important milestones in their development process
  • The children were champions in the “friendship tournament” which promotes values of friendship and self- esteem
  • We implemented the projects “exploring the web” and “promotion of reading” enhancing reading and technological abilities in the children´s formation process

The new spaces in the house are:

  • 4 bedrooms
  • 2 new bathrooms with their showers
  • New laundry space
  • New room for food storing
  • New floor and improvements in the kitchen
  • Celling
  • Dining room
