Mikail, 4, has never known his parents. All he has known is life in the orphanage where he has plenty of brothers and sisters, but no one is special, all equal. Sometimes, he longs to feel special. Sleeping in a dormitory of 25 similarly aged boys, the emphasis is usually on group activities, loving one another, and not trying to stand out too much.
When he received his personal box of khajoor this Ramadan, it moved him deeply. There is plenty of khajoor for everyone in the orphanage, but this was different. This was his own box, not to be touched by anyone but himself, and even though it was meant for one per day, it was still his own box to do with as he liked. That made him feel special. What a great feeling! Thank you for your support and making this happen. Your generosity brings a joy that perhaps you even can't imagine.
Orphans all across Sindh had dates/khajoor and happiness throughout Ramadan because of your generosity.
Here are some pictures of orphans with khajoor boxes as they fast every day and this is how they open their treat.
Your generosity makes them smile, feel seen and remembered, and is a "sunnah" (blessed act as exemplified by the prophet of Islam). In addition to funding orphanages, personalized acts of remembrance and thoughtfulness often mean much more to these children who are truly the unseen of the nation.
God bless you. Thanks again and please do give and spread the word so they have always a bounty, especially at the start of the month of fasting.
We've started collecting funds for our upcoming Ramadan date (Khajoor) distribution to orphanages. As we plan to distribute on the very first day of Ramadan, We need to tally the donations in and purchase the dates on order in advance to ensure the orphans receive the dates on the first day of Ramadan.
This very special annual tradition means so much to the little boys and girls who rarely have access to dates or the fast breaking meal, although most orphans even those of a young age fast.
Your contribution means so much to us, and of course the little children who are receiving from your generosity.
Each child gets their own box of dates for the month of Ramadan and so this is not just food and nourishment, but a gift they cherish that makes them feel not only loved and special, but most importantly, remembered.
This past Eid-al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, thanks to your generosity, we fed orphans. The khajoor is of course during Ramadan, while Eid itself, is where pizza, brownies, ice cream and other treats rule the day.
Thanks to your generosity this past year, we gifted orphans at orphanages throughout Karachi. Boys and girls of all ages, the majority of whom were fasting.
Each orphan got his or her own packet of khajoor, but we had so many more on the waitlist. We request that you please donate early so that we can get the khajoor packets by first day Ramadan to all orphans and we can distribute throughout Pakistan. Nonetheless, your generosity was greatly appreciated and loved and enjoyed by all.
Thank you!
