Give Ramadan Dates/Khajoor to Orphans in Pakistan

Give Ramadan Dates/Khajoor to Orphans in Pakistan

Aliya*, 6, is an orphan. She cries every night for her parents, who were killed in a car crash, with her baby brother.

Saad*, 8, is also an orphan. He never knew his parents or any life outside the orphanage.

Although they have the best comforts they can and orphanage, they feel forsaken, angry and forlorn, Simply because they long for a family of their own. They want to feel special.

When they received their personal box of khajoor this Ramadan, it moved them deeply. There is plenty of khajoor for everyone in the orphanage, but this was different. This was their own box, not to be touched by anyone but themselves. It made them feel tempered, even special. What a great feeling!

Thank you for your support and making this happen. Your generosity brings a joy that perhaps you even can't imagine.

It's 2021 and Ramandan is just a couple of months away. We are preparing now not only for giving the dates, but fit the logistics to ensure on the first day of Ramadan they are dispatched to the orphanages so everyone gets straight away.

When donations come last minute, of course we still honour them, but then the Khajoor arrives 2-3 days after the start of Ramandan. This way, the khajoor itself is gifted in time for the first fast.

Thank you for your support. Please spread the word, donate today and help us bring joy and food to those little ones with no one to love and who are fasting to please their Creator.

Thank you for your generosity in gifting khajoor (dates) to orphans this past Ramadan. We added some ration boxes and goodies for the children as all are fasting, despite being very small.
Rashid (name changed), 7, is never really hungry. There is plenty of food in the orphanage he lives in and lots of friends to play with. But, still, he looks forward to mealtimes. That's why everyone can laugh and joke and occasionally on special occasions or as a surprise, they are given treats (like kulfi - Pakistani ice cream - or something a donor has randomly given).  He misses lunchtime during Ramadan, but does love iftaars as everyone is so happy and joking together.  He knows it is supposed to be a serious experience, but for him and his friends, it's happy and full of bonding.  The best part is breaking his fast with a khajoor as it is sweet. He has a sweet tooth and normally, it's very rare for them to get sweet treats.  He gets to eat these sweet dates every single day in Ramadan.
This year, he got his very own box of khajoor - 30 dates - for the entire month. It was all  his own and he was so tempted to have more than one, but saved one per day, as there were many blessings in breaking a fast with a khajoor and he sure did like blessings.

Thank you for gifting Ramadan dates to Rashid.  Please do give more so more orphans can experience this special feeling ofb breaking their fast with a tradition full of sweetness and blessings. Khajoors are not only sweet, but hearty, and a very healthy way to begin a meal.

Starting today, September 14, GlobalGiving is matching all donations at 50% up to $50, until funds run out. So if you give USD 100 or more, your donation will be increased by $50.  That's a month's supply of khajoor for 25 orphans, just for donating today!  Thank you!

Orphans with their khajoor

We are writing to you as we celebrate the last of the Eid-al-Fitr holidays and the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting for Muslims. Thanks to your generosity, we gifted 1000 orphans at 8 orphanages throughout Karachi. Boys and girls of all ages, the majority of whom were fasting.

Each orphan got his or her own packet of khajoor. We distributed a little late this year, as most donations came in late. We request that you please donate early so that we can get the khajoor packets by first day Ramadan to all orphans. Nonetheless, your generosity was greatly appreciated and loved and enjoyed by all.

Thank you!

Edhi orphans before COVID-19
Edhi orphans before COVID-19

Ramadan Mubarak! To all of you fasting around the world, we wish you ease and peace. This is a very unsual year in that Pakistan, like much of the world, is under COVID-19 lockdown. That means that it is difficult to visit or cater to the needs of orphans, who are almost entirely fasting.  Our priority is to feed these orphans during Ramadan and this drive is for giving them khajoor (dates) to open their fasts.

Thanks to you who have donated. We request all of you to spread the word and ask friends to donate so we can give dates to more orphans this year as they are more isolated then ever.  Due to social distancing, they cannot even open their fasts together.  But, these khajoor, give them a sense of unity and community.

Our goal was to distribute on Saturday, 25th April 2020, first day of Ramadan 2020, but we are now planning to distribute throughout the month so that we can reach as many orphans as possible. We also are getting fresh donations so we plan to give them out this year to those most in need.

We will be sending updates and keeping you informed as this is our journey together.  We won't be taking photographs with orphans this year and they will be given the khajoor at separate times so they don't gather together. Their health and protection is our priority.

Thank you!
