Medicines shortages put young lives at risk in Omilling South Sudan!

Shelves in Loheru health post is empty, and sick patients are forced to travel long distances to receive medical treatment in Omilling, where basic medications can mean the difference between life and death.

Charles Loki (local chief) is already familiar with the gaps plaguing the healthcare system in his area of south Sudan. He, like many others, faces long walks to the nearest healthcare facility, only to wonder whether he’ll be turned away due to drug shortages.

When Loki gets sick, he must walk about 35 miles to Magwi County Healthcare facility. “I feel bad that I have to walk for miles to get treatment”, he says.

“And even when I get there, sometimes I am told there no drugs and therefore referred to Torit State hospital, which is even farther.”

With donations from GlobalGiving we buy medicines which we supply to the health post then distribute to sick patients. On July 8 we supplied the health post with medication to treat 50 people for skin infections.

We still need your help so we provide ongoing supplies of medicines to safe children, women, and men from dying in Omilling.

$10 basic medication for 5 patients suffering from fever

In March Hope Ofiriha delivered small quantities of medicines to a healthcare post to treat the needy. About 20 individuals were given medicines and also the visiting doctors checked a number of patients.

In the past it the community has no source of medicines and when people fall sick they stay home hoping the illness will go away naturally. Some of the patients were practicing blood – letting and when this didn’t work they die home safely. But since the started this project we are happy we are helping patients. Several children are benefiting as they top our priority list. They are suffering severely every day. Hope Ofiriha is delivering malaria queen-syrup for treating malaria victim. We helped 10 children, and paid a bus fares for a pregnant girl to visit a gynecologist for her complicated pregnancy.

We are also open for a time donation! If we know we are getting $10 every month, when a children fall very sick we can credit the medicines and pay the pharmacist at later date when the fund arrives.
