Hi! I’m Mariana from Uraba, Colombia and I would like to share my story with you.
I’m 5 years old and when I was born doctors diagnosed me with Split Palate, a disease that didn’t let me eat or pronounce words correctly, making it much harder for me to learn how to talk. I didn’t have friends at school. I was shy and scared of playing with other children because I didn’t want them to laugh at me when they couldn’t understand what I was saying.
Mom and Dad told me there was a surgery that could fix my palate but the problem was we couldn’t afford it. Last year I remember when Mom became very happy and said to me that thanks to donations from people around the world I could have the surgery.
I have had two surgeries to fix my split palate and other related problems, and I have been going to speech classes where a very nice lady helps my speech. I now love going to school and playing with all my friends. I also really like to paint, jump and dance.
“This has only been possible thanks to your big heart and your disposition to help us. Words will never be enough to express how much we appreciate your help and how all of you changed our lives. Thank you!” - Mariana’s mother
Would you like to see more children from Uraba smile? We invite you to share this with others and spread Mariana’s happiness!
