Eliana's New Smile
Hello I’m Eliana, I am 6 years old and I live in Mutata-Colombia.
I’m now in 1st grade. What I like the most about school is that I get to learn a lot of new things and I also get to play with my friends during recess! In my free time I like to watch cartoons on TV, I laugh out loud because they are very funny!
I’m so happy because I’ve had two different surgeries to solve my problem of Cleft Lip and Split Palate and I’ve been recovering very well. Now I can communicate easily and smile to show how happy I am, something I couldn’t do before. But guess what? I had never stopped smiling on the inside!
My family has supported me a lot in this. My speaking and pronunciation are getting better. I feel like the most beautiful princess of my region, and this is all because of your huge heart and kindness.
My parents have always taught me that it is important to love God and keep him in our hearts. Every night we pray together and we go to church on Sunday to thank God for everything he has given to us.
Thank you for giving me the chance to smile and shine!

Elmer after surgery
Hi! My name is Nelly and I have a 5 year old son, Elmer. We live in the region of Carepa in Colombia.
When he was born, doctors diagnosed him with a malformation in his mouth called Cleft Lip and Split Palate. This made talking and eating difficult for him.
Before the surgery it was hard for others to understand him when he tried to express himself. This always upset him very much and he would get angry easily. After the procedure, this all changed. I can see that my Elmer is now much happier in life! He is now learning to pronounce the alphabet and he’s making good progress.
He’s currently in pre-school grade and He’s learning how to read and write. His favorite part of school by far is story time. Every day when he comes home from school he is excited to tell me which story he learned that day.
He’s got few friends In our neighborhood which he enjoys playing soccer with. They also like to gather in the park and play games imitating their favorite animals. I love my son very much and I know he'll grow up to be an extraordinary person that will help others.
Thank you all for your donations and God bless you.

A Brighter Future

Dokiduby after surgery
Dear donors,
My name is Diocelina Carupia and I take care of my 13 month old grandson named Dokiduby. When he was born he was diagnosed with cleft lip and split palate, two conditions that unfortunately are very common in our region of Mutata, Colombia. Dokiduby is a very bright little boy, he likes to play with balls and cars, and is very eager to learn how to speak and walk.
Thanks to your contribution my grandson underwent a surgery to solve his cleft lip, and once he is old enough he will be able to receive the split palate procedure. Despite the difficulties for a baby to go through surgery, Dokiduby has been receiving a lot of support from his doctors, who have been providing speech therapies, family counseling and nutritional assistance due to his low weight. His progress during the last few months has been outstanding and we have no doubt that in the future, this will give him the opportunity to express himself better, to feel comfortable when interacting with other kids, and more importantly, to have self-confidence.
For this we’ll be eternally grateful, thank you.
