Teacher Lillian who also doubles as the head teacher for Agape Christian School was delighted to welcome children back to school for term one after the extended two-year lockdown. She recognizes that the disruption in children’s education is very regrettable. “We will do anything in our power not only to ensure we recover the lost learning but also to support children’s health and spiritual well being”.
We are doing a range of activities in the school to help the children feel safe and happy in the school. We are very hopeful that we will not go through the challenges of another countrywide lock down again. Ugandan schools reopened on 10 January 2022 after nearly two years since they were closed in an effort to stop the spread of Covid-19. But the closure has taken a heavy toll, not only on students but also on the education infrastructure.
Teacher Lillian went on to note that the school faces a myriad of challenges. Most of the plastic chairs and tables have since been broken and the floor in some classrooms is wearing out. Children also face transport hurdles as most ride as many as seven pupils on one motorcycle. It's her prayer that a school bus becomes available to transport the children.
So what does it take to change a life - save a life - give a child the start to education?
It's generous partners like you that keep our wheels in motion. Thank you for your continued support towards the children in our community. Together, we can make a difference and give them a better start in life.
