Our prayer for clean water at Agape school has been answered and we are so grateful to our generous donors that the new water pump is fully functioning. It's through your generosity that fresh & clean water is available to the children. This also means that the toilet and handwashing facilities can now be efficiently used.
Water and sanitation are key elements of hygiene against childhood diarrhea and other water borne diseases. Teacher Lillian - the head teacher of Agape school is grateful that there is clean water available everywhere in the school. (pointing at the huge water tank near the roof). She is very delighted to show visitors the new water tap near the kitchen. The children too can't hide their excitement as they play with the water. It's a huge relief to the children!
According to Teacher Lillian, "when there is no access to clean water, children will drink any water available. The water well previously used was a danger to the young children. It’s by the grace of God that no child fell in that well, how would I explain it to the parents?"
There is a direct link between the difficulty of access to water and the lack of sanitation, which prevent any hygienic practice. School Children must learn how to wash their hands and become agents for transmitting this knowledge to their homes, thus creating a culture of hygiene that is essential for escaping poverty.
