Agape school Teachers planning for the new term

The Give a Child the Start to Education for a Year project aims to provide children with access to quality education by supporting tuition, learning materials, and infrastructure development. This report highlights the progress made since the commencement of the new school term.

The new academic term commenced last week, and students have been actively reporting back to school. We are encouraged by the enthusiasm displayed by both students and teachers as learning resumes.

As part of the preparation for the new term, the teaching staff held a meeting to allocate subjects and classes. Given the increasing student population, many teachers are handling multiple subjects. This has created an urgent need for additional staff to ensure effective teaching and learning. To address this, one new teacher has been hired to support the upper primary section. However, due to budget constraints, we are currently unable to recruit an additional teacher. We are exploring alternative solutions, including seeking additional funding and adjusting teaching allocations to manage the workload more effectively.

To enhance learning and provide a conducive environment, the school is preparing to introduce a boarding section for the upper primary students. The construction of a new classroom block to accommodate these students is currently in progress. This development is expected to improve students’ academic performance by providing a structured learning environment.

Moving forward, we aim to raise more funds to support the recruitment of an additional teacher, complete the new classroom block to accommodate the upper primary boarding section, and provide essential learning materials to enhance the learning experience for students.

Enhancing Learning at Agape Christian School

Barogal Agape School Pupils in classroom

The new term at Barogal Agape Christian School officially commenced on September 16, and we are delighted to report a remarkable increase in student enrollment. Our dedicated teachers warmly welcomed the pupils, and the school has been filled with excitement and positive energy as classes resumed. However, alongside the joy of this growth, we face several pressing challenges that need to be addressed to ensure the continued safety and quality education for our students.

Current Situation

Increase in Student Enrollment. The school has experienced a significant rise in the number of students this term, reflecting the trust that the community has placed in the quality of education provided at Agape school. While we are thrilled to see more families choosing Barogal for their children's education, this growth also emphasizes the urgent need to improve our infrastructure to meet the demands of an expanding student population.

Demand for a Boarding Section During our recent Parents Teachers Association (PTA) meeting, many parents expressed a strong demand for the introduction of a boarding section. A large number of children currently travel long distances to attend school, often relying on motorcycles (locally known as boda bodas) for transport. This mode of transport raises serious safety concerns, particularly for younger children. A boarding section would provide a safer, more stable environment for these students, enabling them to focus fully on their studies without the daily challenges of long-distance travel.

Need for Expansion of Classrooms At present, Barogal accommodates students from nursery through Primary 4 (P4). However, once pupils complete P4, they are forced to seek alternative schools to continue their education. This creates a significant gap, and we are in urgent need of constructing a new classroom block to house candidate classes (P5-P7) so that our pupils can complete their primary education within Agape. This expansion is essential to providing continuity for our students and meeting the growing demand for higher-level classes.

Thanks to the generous contributions from you - our supporters, we have been able to undertake some crucial repairs to our existing facilities. The school floor, which had become damaged over time, is currently being repaired. Additionally, we are in the process of fixing broken windows, which will enhance the safety and comfort of our classrooms. These improvements are vital, but they are only a starting point for the larger projects that lie ahead.

The growth of Barogal Agape Christian School is a sign of the incredible progress we are making together. However, to sustain this growth and meet the needs of our students, we need your continued support. With your help, we can create a safer, more conducive learning environment for the children, allowing them to focus on their studies and secure a brighter future.
