As Global Girls prepares to bring girls from Grenada to Chicago, we are loving up our awesome city and our wonderful south side community. Part of the reason for our super-sized dosage of adoration is the horrible reputation our part of the city has garnered due to a few bad, or shall we say, wayward apples who've, granted, done some horrendous things. Still, the community that we know, and love also has lovely homes with manicured lawns, neighbors who speak to one another, areas where children ride their bikes on the sidewalk and those oh so Fresh summer block parties are still a regular July and August feature.
Some of the Grenada girls heard about Chicago's south side and began to wonder if they would be safe. We have posted a video and are encouraging our neighbors, friends, community businesses, schools and other organizations like us to tell us or tweet something they love about the south side and we'll put it all into a video that we can share here and with our girls in Grenada, India and Kenya.
The Grenada girls will spend a week in Chicago the first week in August. All of us are so very excited. Thanks to your support, this is a dream trip come true for the girls. We'll post pictures, and, if you're in Chicago, you can come and see the girls perform with our Chicago Globes at a show or two. Summertime is the best time to visit Chicago. We won’t confine them to the south side. They’ll tour this awesome city, perform in four schools and two colleges and talk with lots of girls not only about Grenada, but the dreams they share with and for all girls.
Check out the video our girls prepared for a small grant to help with production costs. We begin our CAN TV Chicago weekly call in show and will feature the video in each program during the 13-week run. Below are pictures from our spring finale at our south side home, the Global Studio.
