Progress Report - Teach For Nigeria's Fellowship

By Olayinka Oyenekan | Development & Partnerships Coordinator

Teach For Nigeria began the 2026 recruitment cycle in January. The recruitment cycle drew strong interest across both the Young Graduate and Existing Teacher pathways, with over 38,000 combined expressions of interest, resulting in more than 8,500 eligible applications. Candidates went through different stages of the recruitment process, from an online test to an instructional leadership assessment, and final evaluations were then held in person and virtually. We will welcome 550 prospective fellows by the end of July 2026, after which they will go through a six-week pre-service training institute before being placed in underserved communities, where they will make an impact on the lives of students and the entire school community.

In terms of implementation, our Fellows continue to improve educational outcomes in their classrooms. Through our Foundational Literacy and Numeracy initiatives, our Fellows continue to use the Teaching at the Right Level methodology to improve literacy and numeracy levels for early-grade learners before they complete primary school. Our Fellows also continue to make an impact in STEM, girls' education, climate education, and mentorship, while carrying out various capstone projects aimed at addressing issues in their classrooms and beyond and giving their students the agency to co-create solutions to challenges affecting them and their wider communities.

Beyond program delivery, we strengthened our voice in national education discourse through the Student Leadership Webinar and our International Women's Day engagement, reinforcing TFN's role as a convener of dialogue on foundational learning and girls' education.

Looking forward:

We are planning and coordinating the 2026 Pre-Service Training Institute while also preparing for the graduation of the eighth cohort of second-year fellows and the fifth cohort of school leaders, a moment to celebrate their impact and growth as they continue advancing educational equity beyond the fellowship.

We also continue to advance different partnership opportunities to scale the growth of our Fellowship, and we continue to count on partners like you for support.
