One day, every Nigerian child will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education. Help Teach For Nigeria achieve this vision by recruiting, training, placing, and supporting 550 fellows to reach 55,000 students in underserved schools across Lagos and Ogun. With $1.2M, we can place passionate young graduates where they're needed most. A $2,150 donation supports one fellow to teach 100 students, shaping and transforming futures and expanding opportunities for decades.
Nigeria has 20 million out-of-school children, one of the highest in the world. According to the Nigeria Education Data Survey, 70% of 10-year-olds cannot read a simple text or solve basic math problems, and 95.5% of children with disabilities are denied education. In underserved Lagos and Ogun communities, overcrowded classrooms, undertrained teachers, and scarce resources leave children aged 6-11 without the literacy and numeracy skills to learn and thrive, thereby limiting their potential.
Teach For Nigeria recruits, trains, and supports fellows to teach in underserved schools, improving students' learning outcomes. Fellows receive specialized training in classroom pedagogy, gender-sensitive classroom practice, STEM education, and leadership development to engage students holistically and beyond learning outcomes. We also engage all relevant stakeholders, including parents, community leaders, and government, to ensure a sustainable improvement in the education system.
By strengthening Nigeria's education system, this project empowers students to build brighter futures. With trained teachers and improved learning environments, children develop critical skills, reducing poverty and unemployment. Fellows become lifelong advocates for education reform, influencing policies and expanding impact nationwide. Over time, entire communities benefit from increased literacy, better job opportunities, and lasting economic growth.
