Gift a Happy Childhood to Orphan Children

Thank you friends for your support to our children. Sphoorti now provides comprehensive support to more than 200 children and education support for another 150 children.

We shifted our children to a new campus six months ago and since then, we have been trying our best to provide safe and secure childhood to our kids.

We conducted a Robotics class, Personality Development session as well Legal Awareness Programs for our children in the new campus. We conducted a Pediatric Health Checkup - general, eye and dental for the children

We have recently provided for bunk beds for all our children. For the first time since Sphoorti was established, our children are sleeping on a mattress and bed.

Our children celebrated festivals like Rakshabandhan, Ganesh Chaturthi and Diwali with the usual fervor.

Construction in the top floor has reached final stages of completion. Because of disturbances from local village politicians, there was a temporary delay for three months. After all the rooms are completed, we will have a functional library, a computer lab and a medical room.

The hostel block has been partitioned into separate spaces for boys and girls. There is ample space for children to play in the open. We have planted about 60 saplings along the compound wall.

We are also planning to set up a Reverse Osmosis facility for safer drinking water.

In the next two years, Sphoorti will set up an exclusive campus for boys in a different location.

This year too, Sphoorti has received recognition as Top Rated Nonprofit by Greatnonprofits.org

Since 2009, Sphoorti Foundation has been providing shelter and support to orphan and destitute children. CUrrently, we are supporting 205 children in our premises and other residential colleges. In addition, we are also running a sponsorship program for children who are poor but stay with parents.

Sphoorti has received $100 through this project. 

As per our mandate, we have been providing basic amenities – good quality food, education, clothing and shelter. We also conducted general health camps in collaboration with local hospitals and health workers.

 a) Distribution of Clothes – Sphoorti provided two pairs of plain clothes to each child in the recent months – in October and March in addition to uniforms and other requirements. We provided a set of the following in the last year to about 200 children:

i) Civil Dresses (2 sets)

ii) Bed sheets (1)

iii) Uniforms (2 sets) and Shoes (2 sets)

iv) Sweater (1) and woolen blanket (1)

b) Beds and Mattresses 

We have provided 40 beds and 80 mattresses so far and we plan to add another 40 beds and 80 mattresses in the next few weeks. 

c) Plantation in the campus

Our children and voluteers planted 70+ saplings in our premises in the last one month. Children have been given responsibility for taking care of plants assigned to them.

R's life - A Ray of Hope

*The situation

This case study is about R who grew from a very diffident girl into a confident student.
A childhood bereft of parental care and love is a menace to the child and to the society. Our child R is such an example who saw sorrow and trauma from closed quarters.  

R (11) hails from a village in Northern Telangana. Her father deserted her family when she was born. After leading a life full of hardship, her mother began to live with a neighbor who promised to marry her. After 4 months of live-in relationship, one fine day he ran away with the woman's money and jewellery. Till date, he has not come back. 

It was then that R was brought to Sphoorti.  

When R joined Sphoorti, she was suffering from T.Capitis on her scalp and scabies on her skin. and her nutrition levels were very abysmal. She comes from a dismembered family which left some deep scars in her psyche. 

It took us about six months to help her deal with all her physical, mental and emotional health issues. We took the help of staff members, school teacher and some volunteers to deal to sort them out.
R wants to study engineering in future. She feels very comfortable and safe staying with Sphoorti inmates. She is slowly learning to speak in English.

R's story is that of transformation of an impoverished illiterate child to a confident school going child. The staff members have to be particularly commended for their commitment and hard work in dealing with children like R. Over the last seven years, the collaboration of our donors, well-wishers and other stake-holders has helped us provide a safe and secure childhood with facilities on par with those of a middle class family. 

There are several such stories at Sphoorti and through your support, we can create more success stories and gift able citizens to the nation.
