Dear TFB supporters,

2016 marked a year of records for Teach for Bulgaria - the largest cohort of teachers entered a record number of schools (89) in ten regions in Bulgaria. Every single one of these 165 Teach For Bulgaria teachers is currently working most arduously with his / her students to develop key skills and knowledge and broadening their opportunities for success in XXI century.

On November 1st Teach for Bulgaria launched its latest recruitment campaign, which aims to attract new people into the educational system to become aspiring teachers in the classrooms in 2017 and motivate students from vulnerable communities to strive for better academic results and success in life.

Between October and December 2016, Teach For Bulgaria worked extensively towards raising awareness towards pertinent issues that the Bulgarian education is currently facing by addressing some of the biggest challenges and seeking possible solutions for a better outlook in the future. As part of these efforts, TFB co-hosted the annual Teach For All Global Conference “Reimagining Education” and the national conference “Education 2016” in partnership with the European Commission, the World Bank, Forbes Bulgaria and Organization “Education Bulgaria 2030”.

We welcomed approximately 400 guests, among which educational leaders, business professionals, etc. from over 50 countries at the three-day Global Conference in Blagoevgrad. The theme was intended to challenge participants to think creatively and with a student-centered focus, learn from each other, and consider the implications of their learnings for their own contexts. At the forefront of many discussions was the Bulgarian educational system and the challenges that it is facing.

The national conference “Education 2016” was entirely focused on the challenges, facing the Bulgarian education, and the possible outlook for the future. It was attended by more than 400 guests - education experts, school principals, teachers, alumni, NGOs, media. Among the key topics discussed were the development of effective teachers in 21st century; early childhood education in minority communities and effective school leadership.

Thank you for your continuous trust and support! Your contributions make our work possible and get us closer to our shared goal in facilitating access to quality education for every child in Bulgaria.

On August 12th, the “Festival of Success” officially marked the successful completion of the sixth annual “Summer Academy” with a students’ showcase of their diverse projects in front of parents and teachers.

The annual “Summer Academy” is free and it is designed for students, grades 1 through 12. It aims to increase students’ readiness and knowledge in the subject matters taught at school and to increase their motivation and desire to learn. Classes were led by aspiring teachers from a variety of backgrounds, who were eager to prove to the children that studying could be both interesting and fun. Due to the Academy’s growing popularity amongst parents and students, for the first time ever we extended it to two schools in Sofia –  144th school in Mladost and 96th  school in Lyulin.

The Academy also marked the end of the intensive summer training of the 120 incoming teachers, entering the Teach For Bulgaria (TFB) program this year. Following their pedagogy training at Plovdiv University, the incoming cohort of teachers embarked on a five-week intensive training program, including methodological and practical preparation and classroom practice.

On September 15th, over 160 Teach For Bulgaria teachers entered classrooms located in ten regions of Bulgaria– Vratsa, Lovech, Montana, Pazardzhik, Pernik, Plovdiv, Razgrad, Sofia-city, Sofia-area and Stara Zagora. Teach For Bulgaria will continue to train the teachers on an ongoing basis throughout the duration of their two-year teaching period and support their professional development in the education sector and beyond.

We're thrilled to share with you a few of the key updates from Teach For Bulgaria over the second quarter of 2016, April-June. Notably, during this period, we wrapped up our biggest recruitment campaign with over 5900 registrations and over 2500 applications for the program! Today, 125 new TFB teachers are getting trained in anticipation of the upcoming 2016-2017 school year. Currently, over 1000 kids from grades 1 through 12 are participating in the 5th annual Summer Academy, which is held in two locations in Sofia. It is thanks to your support that TFB continues to grow and expand its reach, developing motivated and qualified teachers who are ready and able to provide quality education to some of Bulgaria’s underprivileged students.

We thank you for your continued trust and support!

Sincerely,

Dear TFB supporters,

The first three months of 2016 were marked by a few milestones, which we could not have reached without the generous contributions of our corporate and individual supporters.

Between January and March, we secured the highest number of candidates for the Teach For Bulgaria program since our inception in 2010. The record-breaking applications were driven by combined recruitment efforts on a national and regional basis and backed by the support of our media partners. During this period, we also completed an important knowledge-sharing project, focused on developing 21st-century skills in class. TFB published a handbook, titled "How to develop21st-centuryy skills in class" featuring 13 key skills, lesson planning resources, and tried-and-tested classroom activities gathered from TFB classrooms. The handbook is available to download for free, in Bulgarian, as TFB strives to facilitate knowledge sharing among all teachers in the system. This way, we move a step closer to enhancing the quality of education throughout the sector.

For more on these highlights and others, please check out the attached report.

Thank you for your trust and support! Your contributions make our work possible and get us closer to our shared goal of equal access to quality education for every child in Bulgaria.

The last three months of 2015 were eventful for us at Teach For Bulgaria, and we're thrilled to share with you a few highlights from the quarter.

By far our biggest event of the year took place in November 2015, the Education Conference, co-hosted with the European Commission, the World Bank, and Forbes Bulgaria. The two-day conference featured renowned education experts and practitioners who shared best practices in education policy, school management, and innovation as a means of improving access to quality education for underprivileged kids. Attended by over 500 guests, among whom government officials, principals, teachers, and others, the conference was a testament to Teach For Bulgaria's advocacy role in the education sector in Bulgaria.

We invite you to read the attached report and learn about the other highlights of the past 3 months, including the launch of our recruitment marketing campaign for teachers, the Inspirational Leaders Charity Auction, and an environmentally-focused school initiative in our newest region, Razgrad. The report also features the profile of Alex, a current Teach For Bulgaria teacher, and Emo, an alum from the first cohort of Teach For Bulgaria teachers who is currently spearheading "Vratsa Software", a school for motivated aspiring IT professionals in the Vratsa region.

We hope you enjoy this update and look forward to any feedback you may provide. Your support makes Teach For Bulgaria possible, aiding the development of underprivileged children through motivated and capable teachers. Thank you for choosing to be a part of our community!
