The Academy aims to provide free summer education to children from low income communities in Sofia. The goal is to help children with less opportunities compensate their academic deficiencies during the summer. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will also pay special attention to consolidating the knowledge acquired during distance learning. Your support will cover all costs related to the organization and execution of the Academy - food, training materials, transportation for the kids etc.
Studies show that children from lower socioeconomic status such as low income, poorly educated parents, limited access to books, computers etc. underperform at school. 47% of all students in Bulgaria cannot interpret the meaning of what they read. (PISA 2018). Underprivileged children have less opportunities to build up on knowledge and develop skills through meaningful activities during the summer. The Summer Academy provides such opportunities for students ages 7-18.
The classes during the Summer Academy are led by the new motivated teachers in Teach For Bulgaria. They are specialists in different disciplines and have varied professional experience. All teachers at the Summer Academy are trained in the international "Lead as a Teacher" model, created with a focus on the success of each student. This year at the Summer Academy we pay special attention to the preparation for: Mathematics, English and Social-emotional learning.
We, at Teach For Bulgaria believe that well-prepared and motivated professionals are the most valuable resource towards positive change in education. This is why we recruit, train, and develop people who are motivated to contribute to every child's access to quality education in Bulgaria; quality education which leads to a functioning economy and a strong society.
