Increased Water Distribution and Community Reach
Over the past months, we have expanded our Water Refill Station services significantly. Initially distributing 6,000 liters weekly, we are now providing 9,000 liters every week to meet the growing needs of our community. Families line up at our refill station in Burgos, with particularly high demand on Mondays and Fridays. This free service has become a lifeline, ensuring that families have access to clean drinking water, especially as extreme weather patterns continue to impact our island.
Supporting More Schools and Addressing Extreme Weather
As word spreads about the effectiveness of our water distribution efforts, more schools have reached out for assistance. We now provide water to 11 classrooms, ensuring that children have access to safe water during school hours. The increasing intensity of weather conditions, with higher temperatures and drier periods, makes access to clean water more critical than ever. According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Siargao has experienced extreme heat waves, further emphasizing the need for consistent hydration.
Innovative Sustainability Efforts: Wastewater Reuse
In addition to providing clean drinking water, we’ve implemented a new initiative focused on sustainability. We now treat and repurpose wastewater from our filtration process, using it as a water source for our livelihood project—the community laundry service. This circular approach not only reduces waste but also provides an additional valuable resource to support our community-based programs.
Increased Need for Support and Funds
With the rise in demand, we are now facing the greatest need for additional funds and support since the inception of this project. Our increased water distribution, combined with more schools seeking assistance, means that our resources are stretched. To ensure we can continue providing this essential service to families and schools across Siargao, we urgently need additional monthly sponsors and donations.
