One year of sustained support to poor families in South Western Uganda with rabbit breeding project is begining to yield results that exceeds expectations. More than three companies have lined up to buy rabbits from the families with one of them planning to process rabbit meat. This value addition to the rabbit breedin project will most likely motivate more poor families to embrace rabbit breeding. Five mini breedin centers have been established in different communities and this will reach out to a minimum of 500 families that will impact a minimum of 3.000 people. We are now designing tools to collect more infomation on attitudes towards rabbit breeding and what the communities perceive may happen in a few years to come. We are engaging our pilot community to establish a community based clinic with a community insurance component where people will pay their premium with rabbits. 10 rabbits will pay premium for one year and a family of five people will contribute 50 rabbits and one female rabbit produces an average of 60 rabbits in a year. This is a feasible projct with a lot of multiplier effects and the time is now to get more families into this project. We thank our dedicated donors who have tirelessly contributed to this project.
