Dear Friends,
As you may have heard, Romania has passed a new law that states that dogs will no longer be allowed to roam freely on the streets. If they are not provided places in homes, yards, or private shelters, they will be rounded up and put into public facilities where they will be held for 14 working days, and if not adopted, exterminated.
Many private charities with shelters in Romania are now taking in numerous dogs to protect them. These charities are strapped for funds as the demand upon them has increased. Romania Animal Rescue does our very best to help these private shelters by providing free spays/neuters and vet care as our funding allows. But the need for food is enormous.
One shelter we currently help is in Moreni, Happy Paws. They recently expanded their shelter to take in city dogs and are at maximum capacity at 180 dogs....that is 180 mouths to feed, and 2000 kilos of food per month to raise the funds for. Another shelter we help is Speranta shelter in Craiova, and they have over 300 mouths to feed. Both these charities are active in adoptions as well. As you can imagine the costs for these impoverished charities are huge. This is why we are trying to alleviate some of their burden. I hope you can help us to help them.
I have posted a few photos from Happy Paws in Moreni. Thank you so much for your help for the Romanian dogs, who by no choice of their own were born into a country that is overwhelmed with too many dogs and not enough good homes.
I wish you the best,
Nancy Janes
