PROJECT TITLE: FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE AT CHENNAI,INDIA.

PROJECT UNDER:FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE AT TAMILNADU,S.INDIA

PROJECT SITE:KANNAGI NAGAR,CHENNAI.

DISASTER & RISK MANAGEMENT TRAINING: During the Rainy Seasons only flood would be occurred. How shall the people be protected during that occasion? As a Early  warning arrangement for the flood disaster what shall we do? We can know about this in detail through Newspapers, Radio, Televisions etc. Not only through these medias, but also in village areas through loud speaker or through  Thandora announcements would be made. We must know clearly about  What are the protected areas in our living place. We must have known about the ways to the protected places especially the shortcut routes. Everybody must know the Evacuation routes. Also we must know the high places and safety places. If we and everybody know these places we can easily reach these places when flood is occurred. When we do so we must give First priority to the Children conceived women, Aged people and Alternative skilled people must take them to the protected place immediately. In every district a formation named “Disaster Recovery Team” is serving. In this team swimmers and Recovery Training experts will be available. They would recover the flood disaster affected people from the risks. They have entangled. They will have the recovery boats made up of Rubber  Also they would recover the people being entangled in demolitions etc.  Being united with them Fire Service protection Force staff also help the victims being entangled in narrow places or the people who are in the unconscious condition. Like wise there swimming experts also would be much helpful in recovering the victims of the Disaster affected area. Some times those who met the flood disaster would sometimes get injured on their hands or legs would be helped by these voluntary workers especially with the guidance of “Disaster Recovery Team”. Then Following the First Aid Help, they would be sent to the Hospital through Ambulance. When somebody drowns in water and does not know how to swim would drink excess of water. During that occasion they would be provided First Aid Help,water will be taken away and they would be sent to the Hospital for further Treatment according to the situation and need through the Ambulance. Medical Team will Check if the contagious diseases are spread in the places. Where the affected people are accommodated. Medical Camps will be formed and the members of this camp would provide the Casualty Treatment to the people where they have been admitted.

 MOCK DRILL PROGRAMME: An area which is in very low lying condition would be affected always during any Disaster Hit duration. This mock Drill Programme was arranged as these people have already affected much during the disasters and have met many lives loss and material damages . In order to encourage them and to protect  themselves from the training was convened. For this Training programme those who were trained continually and those who are voluntary help minded. In very high places some have entangled in the flood disaster. For about 5 days they suffered. Then they were recovered without any help. In remembrance of those persons this mock drill programme was convened. In the situation of path ways were blocked during the flood disaster some aged people are affected severely. In order to help recover them, nobody would dare to go to that spot because the adjacent areas are surrounded with flood and disasters. That is why the loss of lives are occurred. Even though somebody goes there even in the midst of these many troubles, it takes a long time and loss of lives are occurred frequently. Hence it was planned to bring down. The disaster affected Victim through rope. Those who are hurt and injured were brought down without any defect and being not increased their pain. We made knot at the one end of the rope and tied at the top, we bore them upon our shoulder, carefully got down without holding their body with our hands. They were Safely brought down. We kept our hands alternatively with the rope and step by step. We got down very gently. Affected persons were safely brought down and with the help of other persons they were carried to the hospital with the help of an Ambulance or through a stretcher like arrangement. In low lying areas when a woman gets injured severely, how shall women themselves can carry her. For this purpose how can we use a cot like a stretcher form?. It was taught and demonstrated practically. During an expected manner when a woman gets injured by an accident women themselves can carry that woman for the treatment without any man’s help. That situation was made. On the basis of that idea, the injured woman was laid on the wire cot instead of carrying her with hands. With the help of a long cloth or rope up on her stomach portion she was tied tightly. When women carry that wire cot along with the injured woman she shall not fall down. Four women can easily carry the wire cot and they can lift up the injured woman with the help of  the wire cot. The injured woman also would not be affected further. By this arrangement it was practically demonstrated how a woman can be carried.

EARLY WARNING TRAINING: In accidents Fire accidents are mostly occurred through gas cylinders . In order to avoid that a Training Programme was convened. As the Govt. has provided the gas connection to every house and supplying gas stoves at free of cost in all cities and villages, these gas cylinders cause much danger to many people. Therefore it is necessary for every body who operates the gas stoves carefully with much concern. Where there is gas cylinder in that room there must be enough Ventilation. Windows must be kept opened. If there is any gas leakage is found from the cylinder or tube it would cause fire in the entire room and to the surrounding portions also. During the time of gas leakage no body shall turn on the switch in the concerned room no body shall turn on the mobile phone. As soon as the cooking by gas stove is accomplished, we must turn off the button up on the gas cylinder. Also we must turn off the switch with the gas stove. If we don’t turn off the button in the gas cylinder. Otherwise automatically the gas will leak also the tubes goes from  cylinder to the stove must be checked frequently. If any leakage through a damage or hole is found, it must be removed and a new tube shall be fixed. When we join the stove and Gas cylinder we must check the condition of the washer also. If we do so properly we can avoid the great disaster and risks. Finally the people conveyed their vote of thanks to the Global Giving aided Project Staff Team.

REPORT TITLE:EXPOSURE VISIT FOR ORGANIC FERTILIZERS.

PROJECT TITLE:FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE AT TAMILNADU,S.INDIA.

   During the year 2015 at rain flood affected villages named Korampallam, Ayyanadaippu and Poobalrayapuram villages of Thoothukudi district by the Trainers of the organization Chevalier Roche Society to the people in these areas. The people in these areas were mostly illiterate and were doing the works of salt pan, construction of buildings Agricultural daily wage etc. Economically they were in very poor condition and backslide economically of very poor back ground condition majority of the people don’t have enough knowledge about any other entrepreneurship other them these they had the very poor back ground of life. In this juncture we gathered 12 to 15 persons and formed them as group of women. In this situation so many training programmes were provided. For e.g. First Aid Training programme, Disaster and Risk Management Awareness Training Programme, Awareness of using clean water, Avoidance wasting the water, water quality Test etc. learnt to them many times. Being related to these training programmes vermi cost manufacture was taught to the women members of the Self help group for their economic Development for the uplift of their life standard. Not only we helped them in teaching about the manufacture of vermin cast, but also it was shown to them as a practical demonstration by taking them to the Mother Theresa Engineering college of Agriculture to provide them the necessary explanation.

SCAD AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH & EXPOSURE VISIT TRAINING:We took Self Help Group Women members and other women from Korampallam, Ayyanadappu and Poobalarayapuram areas, to the SCAD Agricultural Research Centre.

VERMI CAST MANUFACTURE TRAINING:Necessary explanation about the manufacture of vermi cast, but also it was shown to them as a practical demonstration by taking them to the Mother Theresa Engineering college of Agriculture to provide them the necessary explanation about the manufacture of vermi cast was provided to the Self Help women Group members and other women at Korampallam, Ayyanadaippu and Poobalarayapuram areas of Thoothukudi District. Most of the people and farmers use artificial and chemical fertilizers to the trees, crops and even small plant so we explained the participants of the training programme about the defects being formed by the usage of chemical fertilizers to us vegetables, plants such as climbers, shrubs trees and even small plants. In order to avoid these defects we must not only use the natural fertilizers and protect the nature and also we must inform everybody about this fact if we do so we can protect ourselves and everybody from other diseases also if was also explained about the types of natural fertilizers and their methods of manufacture also, so that we can protect our lives from many types of diseases so trainers explained to the participants of the training programme about the manufacturing method of the natural fertilizer and what are the necessary materials for the manufacture of the natural fertilizer also they were asked to clear their doubts by asking questions about the manufacture of the fertilizer. Participants of the training programme asked some questions about the manufacture and our trainers cleared those doubts by answering them properly.

VERMI CAST MANUFACTURE: Vermi compost may be manufactured in major level or in a small scale industries level. For this manufacture we need a good type of manger. Shed of the manger shall be composed of Bamboo reapers of wooden reapers. The measurement of manger must be proper. It must not be affected with any type of cyclone and Rain water should not enter into the manger. There must be enough space in to that cottage. Then only the workers can go and come between the mangers without any interruption. Generally the earth worm mangers thickness must be from 75 –cm – 90cm. In order to the facilities of water draining, it must be formed with the facilities of the earth worm mangers must be upon the top of the ground level. In order to form the vermi compost manufacture centre and extension centre we would be in need of a land portion of 0.5/Acre area. In such area we must form the cottages of measure with180 – 200 sq feet. In this manner we must make 8 – 10 cottages. Also we must have a well with pump set motor equipments. The trainees participated in the training programme visited the vermi compost manufacturing place and the needed thatched palm leaves tent many tubs in the size of 2x3 feet had been found constructed. In to that tubs cow dung, goat dung was added. In addition to this dry leaves and stems were also added. Upon this mixture sugar solution was sprinkled frequently. Then earth worms were also added to this stirred well. This process was directly viewed by trainees and learnt well about the manufacture of vermin composed. And also the manufacture method with the plastic bags was also shown to them with the less amount of investment everybody who is interested in this entrepreneurship can learn easily and manufacture the vermin compost and develop them economically. Trainees not only learned about them but also they knew the manufacturing method of vermin compost directly at the manufacturing centre. Self Help Group women members assured that they would do this entrepreneurship by getting the bank loan amount and returned to their homes happily.    

  KITCHEN GARDEN: In simple methods how shall we make the kitchen gardens? Kitchen garden farmers shared their experience and modern techniques to be followed in the formation of kitchen garden. Following that some guidance’s of forming the kitchen gardens and the manufacture of organic fertilizers from the kitchen garden wastes for the vegetation plants were described in detail

FORMATION OF ROOF GARDEN: Having the interest to form kitchen garden only is not enough. We must allot certain time for that. We must decide do we have the possibilities for that. Then only we shall do some arrangements for the formation of kitchen Garden accordingly just because of the sudden interest only if form a kitchen garden and following that if we do not do any maintenance and supervision for that, either the kitchen garden or Roof Garden, it would be useless also it was explained that. Home garden may be formed in 2 ways. Of which the one is out houses garden. If can be kept in ground level. And another model is roof garden. If we have the enough space in the upstairs and have enough nutrient soil, it may be done easily. It would be better to make Roof garden, when the concerned person has no enough space outside the house.After forming the garden, people must plan to plant only the vegetations which are suitable to our climate. Those vegetations only must be reared. We should not like to rear foreign vegetations or any mountain area vegetations. It was also unformed to the trainees clearly. We must leave enough space between two plants. Necessary plants for as or according to the need of our friends plants can be planted. This was also explained clearly by Agricultural Trainer, SCAD.There when we form a home garden or kitchen garden. We can develop our economic status take healthy vegetables without any chemical ingredients. This was learnt properly by participants attended in the training programme. They were confident that they can earn good profit when and keep up the every point they learnt. Also they said it would be a nice experience for us and it would be beneficial to many people.        

 NUTRITIENT FLOUR MANUFACTURE : Western dishes such as Puffs, Pizza etc. are not suitable for our health. When children are familiar to take these food items, these would cause many evils to their health. Instead of taking these western food items they can take healthy and traditional food items, Now this type of awareness is increasing among our people. In the morning and evening times some our people have quit the habit of taking coffee or Tea and instead of that they take nutrient flour sauce etc. This habit is increasing day by day now. It is a good habit. If we prepare this nutrient flour and market the same we can earn a reasonable amount as a profit.

PREPARATION: Ragi – 2kg, 2) MAIZE 2KG 3) Green Gram 500gm 4) Horse gram 500gm 5) Soyabeans 1kg 6) Millet 500gm 7) Black gram 500gm 8) Samba wheat 500gm 9) Barley 500gm 10) Ground nut 500gm 11) Aval 500gm 12) Sago 500gm 13)White gingelly  100gm 14) Almond 50gm 15) Omum 50gm 16) Dry ginger 50gm 17) Pistha 50gm 18) Nutmeg 2 Nos 19) Gall nut These are the materials necessary for the preparation of Nutrient Flour

Ragi, Maize, Green gram, horse gram shall be soaked in water for about a period of   12 hours after tying in a fine cloth. After that grains would in sunlight for a day. Then it shall be powdered in a flour mill. Leave this flour to be cooled for about 4 hours. Now the Nutrient flour is ready for use. The quantity of the flour would be 12kg. Then the flour may be packed in 250gm, 500gm and 1kg packets. Upon this packet labels shall be affixed. Then it shall be covered with another packing. Now the nutrient flour ready for sale The in gradients of the Nutrient flour is available at provision stores.

 BENEFITS: This flour can be made as sauce by adding with water, stir well and boil. This flour can be used to prepare any type Tiffin like Dosai, Adai etc. Also this flour can be mixed with the boiled milk and anybody can drink that liquid. By this nutrition anybody can get nutrition’s and strength. In this flour carbohydrate and fat contends are very little. It is a suitable food for children. During the morning and evening times any child may take this nutrition. When aged people take this flour they can understand that they could get the instant strength and power for them. It is an easily digestible nutrition. All these were taught to the participants of the training programme .As the powder is made after ingredients were dried and then powdered this nutrient flour would not be spoiled for a period of six months.

VERMI COMPOST: Vermi compost is the product of the composting process using various species of worms usually red wigglers, white worms, and other earth worms.To create heterogeneous mixture of decomposing vegetable (or) food waste, bedding materials and vermi cast. This process of producing vermi compost is called vermi composting.

VERMI CAST: Vermi cast is called worm castings, worm humus (or) worm manure.It is the end product of the breakdown of organic matter by on earthworm.Vermi composting can also be applied for treatment of sewage sludge.Vermi compost contains water – soluble nutrients and is an excellent, nutrient – rich organic fertilizer and soil conditioner. It is used in organic farming.

SPIRULINA CULTIVATION: Spirulina is a naturally occurring blue green micro algae which grows and thrives in warn water alkaline lakes. It is a single celled organism that turns sunlight into micro nutrient life energy. Spirulina is considered as a super food Spirulina is blue green algae which is used as a food for peoples. Spirulina is a micro algae which is particularly used as a medicine for HIV / AIDS patients. It contains vegetable protein and amino acids to build muscles for humans. Spirulina is cultivated in simple tanks. Spirulina type of tablets is used for growth of hair. Spiriulina cultivation is protected from the insects and other things. This spirulina is cultivated in low investment it requires so low place like pond like pond surface. After cultivating the Spirulina there is huge amount of cultivation of Spirulina it gives us high income. So the peoples we can invest very low amount in cultivating this type of Spirulina there is no large maintenance for caring this Spirulina. It takes less water, It contains high proteins and gives us high income for the victims who cultivated this Spirulina.

Spirulina Harvest: Spirulina is cultivated in small area and within 10-15 days it is ready for harvest so we can implement the Spirulina in a few days. If a SHG can do this has a business with less income investment and get Rs.60,000 as a gross income and get the profit of Rs.30,000 or above .This is used to rebuild their life style. The participants of the training programme were very happy about this training programme and they are thankful to the Global Giving & Chevalier Roche Society.
