REPORT TITLE: LIVELIHOOD SUPPORT FOR REMOTE COMMUNITIES
PROJECT TITLE: FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE AT CHENNAI,INDIA.
PROJECT UNDER:FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE AT TAMILNADU,S.INDIA.
PROJECT SITE:KANNAGI NAGAR & EZHLIL NAGAR CHENNAI.
At Kannagi Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur area of Chennai we met the Women there in order to find the position of women to day. We talked with some women and asked about their situation. They said that during these days it would be hard to run the family only with the in come of our husband. They also asked us to provide a training to do an entrepreneurship, so that they could manage their family expenses. Being understood their attitude we talked with then about an entrepreneurship Training programme. They felt it would be suitable for them than the other entrepreneurships we discussed with them. The entrepreneurship selected by them was making the garland to fix on doorposts. This type of garlands would be made by Shells, Corals, and Pearls etc. We also provided them the training as requested by them. During this Training programme we told them about the door post garland. In the earlier days door post garland would be prepared by flowers. It would last only for a day. After that it won’t be useful and would not be found as good. But this type of door post garland being made by Shells, Corals, Pearls etc would be seemed beautiful. It will last long a long for a long duration of time. Even through many years pass it would not be withered. Also it would not be damaged. The colour also would not fade. During this training programme we taught them how we should prepare the Door post garland being made by Corals, Shells, and Pearls etc. They learnt about this garland making with zeal.We also taught them about how they should they sell the same. Also we informed them where they should collect the basic materials for preparing this door post garland. We must teach them also about the marketing Technology.
- Most of the pearls from the shell are used as ‘’Jewellery’’ are made by pearl oysters and fresh water mussels.
- Most of the pearl ones are sold are cultured and not wild.
- Molluscs have been used as a source of food for humans, as well as important as luxury goods, and chemical compounds.
- Moluscus are used to do flower vases, necklaces, door curtains for windows, screens, and ornaments, and in mirror as decorative.
- This ornamental shell craft history was explained in detail to the victims in detail and how ever the mollusk shell is used as ornament, door screens, and mirror as decorative items etc. These products are demonstrated to then and encouraged the peoples to do such business activities with this shell product in a low investment to improve their life style.
In order to know the women’s position particularly about women who don’t go for any work and stay at their homes themselves we went to Ezhlil Nagar to Know about their position. They said that it is hard for them to be at home as an idle person and that is hard for them to run the family with the salary of a single person and also they asked us to guide them to begin an entrepreneurship on their own. Being understood their position, we explained them about some entrepreneurship Trainings them of which an entrepreneurship was seemed much interesting for them. That was shells, corats, pearls ornament work. They were interested to prepare themselves for Doorpost Garland preparation Training. The reason for this entrepreneurship selection is that they can do their work at home it self and it would be easy for them. According to that we provided them the Training to prepare ‘’ Reception Garland’’ and to begin an entrepreneurship on their own. In the earlier days people would prepare plastic paper work, Thread work for their preparation. But in this coral, shell pearls etc the work would be easier, would be see shed beautiful and it would be durable for a long duration. Also they had a hope that all wealth’s, riches will gather at home. Therefore this Training was provided to them. With the small amount of invest in this entrepreneurship they small amount of invest in this entrepreneurship they can easily earn a good profit amount for their livelihood. Being expected many benefits for them this Training was offered to them. Therefore this Training was provided to them. In addition to this we also taught them and provided the Training of marketing also especially we encouraged them to have perseverance, confidence, and honesty in their entrepreneurship. It was also suggested during the Training that if they would do this entrepreneurship it would be much helpful for them. They also learnt many things including the marketing techniques also from as. We also provided the entrepreneurship training with practical demonstration to the participants of this training for the Dried shells are used for making combs, buttons, bags, purses, locket, pouches
- Outer shells are cleaned well and painted are given as gifts with printed Art of names.
- It is used for door mats, screens, ornamental decorations, artificial flower cases.
- Chennai is a coastal area contains shells. These are collected by fishery people and small scale industrial people used for making ornamental articles, decorative things.
- Pleasure containing words, key chains, paper weights, pen stands, small earrings dollars in chairs, bangles, rings is produced from the shells collected in the Chennai coastal areas.
- Rarely (right torsioned) it is kept in temples for worshiping. In houses also it kept for worshipping.
- It is also used as a fortune material.
- Thus all the livelihood activities can be done by the shells are demonstrated and practiced to the victims in the area. To improve their business in groups (or) individual purpose in ‘’Small scale industries’’.
